I know that the theological virtues are mentioned in the Bible (1 Corinthians 13) but are the cardinal virtues mentioned anywhere? Specifically Justice? Or are these mainly found in the Catechism of the Catholic Church?
Prudence - able to judge between actions with regard to appropriate actions at a given time
Justice - proper moderation between self-interest and the rights and needs of others
Restraint or Temperance - practicing self-control, abstention, and moderation
Courage or Fortitude - forbearance, endurance, and ability to confront fear and uncertainty, or intimidation
These were derived initially from Plato's scheme (see Protagoras 330b, which also includes piety (hosiotes)) and adapted by Saint Ambrose, Augustine of Hippo, and Thomas Aquinas (see Summa Theologica II(I).61). The term "cardinal" comes from the Latin cardo or hinge; the cardinal virtues are so called because they are hinges upon which the door of the moral life swings.
The number of Theological and Cardinal Virtues adds up to Seven - the same number of Cardinal (aka Deadly) Sins. Upon closer comparison, you'll notice that each of the values espoused in each of the Virtues directly opposes the vices of the Seven Deadly Sins.
The issue is not about religion but the proper traits and character of a person who is or is to be employed in a Catholic school. One of the Worst scenario could be-a thief for a guard for example. What I mean is should it be required/expected of an employee to be as morally upright as the Catholic virtues and traits being taught to the students? Character traits like honesty, politeness, humility, fear of God, discipline, etc... What difference does it make if one is employed in the government or private firms vs a Catholic school? Can a person's character trait depend on where he works? Or should the employer set a standard for hiring applicants with a common denominator in terms of exhibiting "Cathollic" traits as a personality requirement?
Yes.
All employees in Catholic schools (whether they are Catholic or not) sign a morals clause in their employment agreement that they agree to "maintain, by word and actions, a position of role model and witness to the Gospel of Christ that is in conformity with the teachings, standards, doctrines, laws, and norms of the Catholic Church."
Parents of the students in the school scrimp and save to be able to pay the tuition every month.
How would you like to be paying hundreds of dollars a month so your child can get a good education and a good moral base on which to build their lives in this increasingly immoral world when his or her teacher says or does something completely unchristian?
With love in Christ.
I only remember nine of the so-called "spiritual opposites" those are found in Galatians 5
immorality
impurity
sensuality
idolatry
sorcery
strife
anger
jealousy
drunkenness
Faith,Hope,Love and what else?
The Bible is Catholic.
The Bible Catholics use is the version Septuagint that Jesus used...if it is good enough for my Savior, it is good enough for me....now what about that Hebrew translation that Martin used that was canonized after the death of Jesus?!
That's a valid piece of work!
Justice
Temperance
Fortitude
Courage
Faith
Hope
