catholic wedding ceremony music

Getting married in a Catholic ceremony without a mass, meeting with the music director soon- However I'm looking for dramatic music that will fit with our evening ceremony. What songs have you used or heard in Catholic weddings?

Well the music will depend on the kind of instruments that are available to you.

If you have a full church organ then you can have a lot of fun with songs like the Tocatta and Fugue in D Minor by Bach or even the Dance of the Sugar Plum fairies by Tchaikovsky. If you want more religious sort of songs then simply go with your favourite hymn.

Ave Maria and Panis Angelicus sound really great with harps and are traditional Catholic hymns. The Trumpet Voluntary by Clarke has been converted into a piano/organ piece too and sounds really good.

I'm sure that the music director will be able to give you some good advice and will probably offer to play some things for you.

Also, can readings not from the Bible be read as well? Such as poetry or Shakespeare? We are not having a full traditional mass, as my fiance is Catholic and I am not.

if you are going to have a mass then the music director will meet with you or you should schedule an appointment but for my wedding:
bridal party walking down aisle

unity candle
bringing up gifts (wine/communion)
receiving communion
recessional

I am planning a Catholic wedding and am having a hard time finding any good songs to use that will be allowed by the church. Can anyone tell me what they may have used in their wedding or where I can find some good examples of accepted music for the Catholic sacrament of marriage? I am not having mass and thus simply need a song to seat the mothers, for the bridesmaids, bride and recession.

Preparation and Communion need to be hymns that the whole congregation can sing.


Just listen to the songs and pick which ones you like. Some are slow and some are more upbeat tempo songs.

I am deciding on my music and I was wondering if anyone knows whether a separate song is needed for the parents to be seated, bridal party to walk down, flower girl and ring bearer, etc. I have been looking at the list that my musician gave me and I was a little confused by what all I need.
