Please only answer this if you are Catholic or have legitimate knowledge of what is acceptable in a Catholic church.
My fiance and I are Catholic and are planning of having a Catholic wedding ceremony. Today, I just came to idea that a strapless dress may not be appropriate. Does anyone know if it is okay to wear a strapless dress for the ceremony (in the church)?
Thanks for any help you can offer on this issue.
I was married Catholic and so were most of my friends. Some of them wore strapless dresses and some didn't. It depends on the church and more importantly the priest conducting the ceremony. You will need to find out ahead of time. If they say no to it you could just wear a satin wrap or shrug around your shoulders during the ceremony. Sometimes elbow length gloves will satisfy them also.

You see, my fiance is protestant and I am catholic. Well, I want a catholic wedding and I want to raise the children catholic. My fiance doesn't care if we have a catholic ceremony but he isn't so sure about us raising our children if we have any catholic because he doesn't know much about Catholicism.
How would I get married and not have to raise my children catholic? I would also like to know if it's very common for a couple to teach their children both the protestant and catholic faiths.
Could you help me here?
--Is Catholic--
Well first to get the dispensation to marry a non-Catholic the priest has to be sure that you will not be in danger of defecting from the faith and that you will raise your children Catholic. It is important to keep in mind two things 1.) Religious differences become more pronounced when you actually have kids and the reality of raising them Catholic starts. 2.) Raising kids in multi faiths does not produce more religious people but rather less religious people. Kids are not mini adults and they simply cannot process the differences between Catholicism and religion X and rather they generally see that religion is either not important or simply a matter of personal taste such as liking chocolate or vanilla ice cream. Of course that is completely wrong and not at all what religion is about.
Because your future fiance doesn't know much about Catholicism, let me suggest that the both of you read the following books.

We are helping out a friend who will have her wedding this October in a Protestant (Baptist) Church wedding ceremony. In a Roman Catholic wedding ceremony, they have a missal that contains a script of the whole ceremony. Is there such an equivalent for that in a baptist wedding ceremony - one that we can print out and distribute during the wedding so people attending the ceremony will have a guide? Thanks
Hi. As a church secretary (Lutheran Church) who has done many wedding bulletins (some call them programs), I would advise your friend to check with the church office before doing anything.
As a service to those who are getting married at the church I work at, I type up and copy the program (along with help from the couple, of course.) So, have your friend FIRST check with the church office if they do anything like this. If not, then proceed on your own.
I don't know how the order is for a Baptist ceremony (I am Catholic myself), but I would think you would be able to find anything you need by doing a simple Google search.
Good luck!
I'm getting married next summer. I'm Catholic, but my fiance is not. I've always been very laid-back about my religion, therefore I'm not very clear on the rules and regulations when it comes to Catholic wedding ceremonies. I have some pretty die-hard Catholics in my family that insist on having everything done the right way. What do I need to know to get this thing started? I'm going to be making an appointment to see my parish pastor soon in order to get wedding arrangements in order. Any advice?
The Catholic Church allows marriage between Catholics and non-Catholics.
Anyone married in the Catholic Church has to:
+ Take a pre-marriage course
+ Promise to baptize and educate their children in the Catholic Church.
Here is a good article with suggestions on how to help an interchurch marriage succeed: http://www.americancatholic.org/Newslett ers/CU/ac0690.asp

My fiance and I are getting married in a catholic church...it totally went over my head that the ceremony would be catholic. What goes on during a catholic wedding ceremony? My fiance says that someone sings like 3 songs...which is exactley what i DO NOT WANT in my wedding...is this true???
You don't have to have a full mass, you can just have a wedding ceremony. Those are a lot shorter. However there will still be a reading and the priest will still give a sermon, You can omit the songs to if you desire to do so. All told you can probably cut the whole thing down to about 15 or so minutes.

Question about Wedding Music? :Wedding Questions.net
Here Comes the Bride is not set in stone, even in a Catholic church. I believe there are restrictions on some kinds of secular music, but even Here Comes the Bride is actually a secular tune, since it was written for Richard Wagner’s opera Lohengrin. The most commonly used music for the recessional also comes from an opera, Mendelsohn’s opera of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Both were written late in the nineteenth century, and thus are not that long-standing as traditions go.
But there are many churches that allow a wider selection of secular music, and many couples who are not marrying in a church, or even using a clergyperson.
So, yes, there are a lot of brides walking up the aisle to something other than Wagner. Me? I was lead up the aisle by a bagpiper who played a lovely traditional Scottish tune called Highland Wedding. Pachelbel’s Canon in D has been a very popular tune for wedding processionals for the last thirty or forty years. JS Bach’s Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring, and Purcell’s Trumpet Voluntary are also popular, as are a wide variety of hymns and classical pieces.

Since Holy Matrimony is a Sacrament in the Catholic Church, you do have to do everything the right way. You wouldn’t make up your own baptism or confirmation rite, would you? Same thing.
