Getting married in a Catholic ceremony without a mass, meeting with the music director soon- However I'm looking for dramatic music that will fit with our evening ceremony. What songs have you used or heard in Catholic weddings?
Well the music will depend on the kind of instruments that are available to you.
If you have a full church organ then you can have a lot of fun with songs like the Tocatta and Fugue in D Minor by Bach or even the Dance of the Sugar Plum fairies by Tchaikovsky. If you want more religious sort of songs then simply go with your favourite hymn.
Ave Maria and Panis Angelicus sound really great with harps and are traditional Catholic hymns. The Trumpet Voluntary by Clarke has been converted into a piano/organ piece too and sounds really good.
I'm sure that the music director will be able to give you some good advice and will probably offer to play some things for you.
Good luck with everthing.

My husband and I are both Puerto Rican, although I'm not fluent in spanish. We're trying to incorporate songs in spanish for our wedding mass. Any suggestions?
Oregon Catholic Press, www.ocp.org has a lot of liturgical music in Spanish. Type Spanish into the search window and you can find plenty of music, Some of the music you can preview.
You can also check out www.catholicbrids.com. They have a link to appropriate music for weddings.

hello~
I am getting married an a catholic church and was just wondering if anyone knew what type of music is allowed to be played. I would really love to be able to walk down the isle to the 'canon in D' played by pachelbel, but i don't know if that is allowed to be played in the church..?

Pachelbel is definatly allowed in any church since it's classical. Thats what i'm having at my Catholic wedding.
The church should explain to you everything that is allowed and not allowed in a Catholic wedding ceremony. We were told by our priest that the only music permitted is classical or religious pieces, and it has to be a live musician because apparently recordings aren't considered sacred enough for church (which i thought was stupid). However, rules could differ among parishes so check with yours and see what they say.

I'm looking for a song to be played at my wedding when we present flowers to the statue of the Blessed Mother. I am already planning to use Ave Maria as I walk down the aisle. We will be having a string quartet playing. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Also, can readings not from the Bible be read as well? Such as poetry or Shakespeare? We are not having a full traditional mass, as my fiance is Catholic and I am not.
Not usually but it never hurts to ask.

Question about Wedding Music? :Wedding Questions.net
Here Comes the Bride is not set in stone, even in a Catholic church. I believe there are restrictions on some kinds of secular music, but even Here Comes the Bride is actually a secular tune, since it was written for Richard Wagner’s opera Lohengrin. The most commonly used music for the recessional also comes from an opera, Mendelsohn’s opera of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Both were written late in the nineteenth century, and thus are not that long-standing as traditions go.
But there are many churches that allow a wider selection of secular music, and many couples who are not marrying in a church, or even using a clergyperson.
So, yes, there are a lot of brides walking up the aisle to something other than Wagner. Me? I was lead up the aisle by a bagpiper who played a lovely traditional Scottish tune called Highland Wedding. Pachelbel’s Canon in D has been a very popular tune for wedding processionals for the last thirty or forty years. JS Bach’s Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring, and Purcell’s Trumpet Voluntary are also popular, as are a wide variety of hymns and classical pieces.
...We#39;re in the Double Digits, People! | Weddingbee
Quite literally a citizen of the world, I was born in Poland, grew up in Canada, and now live in the beautiful state of Vermont. I love reading historical biographies, multi-tasking, teasing my hair, and, despite my height, wearing high heeled shoes. I am the ultimate klutz with an uncanny ability to put on a graceful front. Mr. Pudding and I have been dating for over six years, and are very excited to finally merge our (very large) families. We are planning a traditional Polish-Catholic wedding that is anything but predictable.
Well, not yet. Our wedding is actually 100 days from today. So technically, we will be in the double digits tomorrow.
Where did all the time go? When we got engaged in August 2008, the wedding seemed a lifetime away. I have to admit that I was upset about the fact that I would have to wait so long to walk down the aisle. I tried to twist our timeline any which way to get the date bumped up, but it just wasn’t possible.
