i am engaged and my fiance and i have set the date for our wedding.
However, it falls on a Sunday and our chosen time is 12 noon.
Do catholic churches permit weddings on Sundays?
My parish church also has mass services at 11am - an hour before our wedding; how do i resolve this issue
Thank you
Yes, Sunday weddings are absolutely allowed in Catholic churches--in fact it's very traditional. In every Catholic wedding I've ever attended, mass comes first followed by the wedding ceremony. It takes a while, LOL!
You should talk to your parish priest about the particulars. He will have done this hundreds of times and can advise you on how to proceed. One personal question to consider--is your fiance Catholic? Your church may not be willing to perform the service if he isn't.
PS: After reading the answers already given, I guess the Archdiocese around here must have a different position on Sunday weddings that isn't as common as I thought. In any case, absolutely talk to your parish priest.
I'm Catholic and I'm getting married next month and I have a question reg. music. If anyone has been married in the Church, do you remember how many songs were needed and for what purposes? I know, bridal party processional, bride processional, the ave maria for flower offering, music during communion and the recessional...anything else? Thanks!
I think you just about have it all, but this should verify:

...it has the order of the music for a Catholic wedding. I am Catholic myself, but it's been quite some time since I have attended a Catholic wedding. Good luck and congratulations!

I'm planning my friends wedding and her cousin is a priest who they'd like to have conduct the vows.
They want a catholic wedding, one honored by the church, but they want to have a outdoor wedding as well. As Catholic's are we allowed to be wed outside the church or does it need to be in a church in order to have your wedding blessed by the church?
In order for it to be a Catholic wedding and seen as a marriage by the Catholic church, you must be married in a Catholic church. Because of the strong stance the Catholic church has on weddings, your friend's cousin will not be able to perform the ceremony or even appear there as a priest unless it is in a church.
I had some very dear friends of mine be excommunicated for "living in sin" because their marriage wasn't performed in a church. They had it in a nondenominational chapel of a location that meant a great deal to them. It didn't make any difference to the church. They were still considered to not be married.
Your friend needs to decide what is more important, an outdoor wedding, or a Catholic wedding.
Good luck.
My fiancee and I are having a terrible time trying to schedule our wedding- the priest doesn't have time to marry us until next June!
The church offered the services of the permanent deacon to perform our wedding. I've never been to a Catholic wedding performed by a deacon- how would it be different? Is it still a sacramental marriage? Obviously it cannot be a full Mass, but can we still share the Eucharist with our guests?
The deacon cannot consecrate the Eucharist but he should be able to distribute Communion from the Tabernacle. Be sure to ask.
Just about everything else is the same.
With love in Christ.

Question about Wedding Music? :Wedding Questions.net
Here Comes the Bride is not set in stone, even in a Catholic church. I believe there are restrictions on some kinds of secular music, but even Here Comes the Bride is actually a secular tune, since it was written for Richard Wagner’s opera Lohengrin. The most commonly used music for the recessional also comes from an opera, Mendelsohn’s opera of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Both were written late in the nineteenth century, and thus are not that long-standing as traditions go.
But there are many churches that allow a wider selection of secular music, and many couples who are not marrying in a church, or even using a clergyperson.
So, yes, there are a lot of brides walking up the aisle to something other than Wagner. Me? I was lead up the aisle by a bagpiper who played a lovely traditional Scottish tune called Highland Wedding. Pachelbel’s Canon in D has been a very popular tune for wedding processionals for the last thirty or forty years. JS Bach’s Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring, and Purcell’s Trumpet Voluntary are also popular, as are a wide variety of hymns and classical pieces.
...Two wedding questions: my mom driving us INSANE amp; venue cost ...
1) My mom is driving me crazy. It’s mine and my fiance’s 2nd wedding each. I had a huge blowout wedding for the first one that she paid for and did everything HER WAY. He didn’t have much of a 1st wedding at all and his family/friends are really excited about this one. Since he and I are paying for this ourselves….what’s a nice way of telling my mom to BUTT OUT?
She insists we ELOPE. This really hurts my feelings.
And when I do start telling her planning advice, she fusses and says negative things. But she’s not paying a dime!! We are very close and I’m an only child. We’ve been kinda like best friends and now this is causing a rift.
She’s even telling me NOT to invite her side of the family b/c they’ve already given me presents @ wedding number one. I do have some close family that I want to invite but not for a gift. I want them there b/c I love them. But she won’t see this through.
