1 john 3:7-10 mean in the catholic youth bible?
(Untitled)

I'm not sure how it differs in the youth version of the Catholic Bible. Here is in the Douay-Rheims:

1 John 3:7  Little children, let no man deceive you. He that doth justice is just, even as he is just.
8  He that commmitteth sin is of the devil: for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose, the Son of God appeared, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
9  Whosoever is born of God, commmitteth not sin: for his seed abideth in him, and he can not sin, because he is born of God.

They are saying here that the sinner is of the devil, but those who abide in JESUS are of GOD and keep the commandments.

LOVE your neighbor as yourself.
Amen.

Catholic Approved Teen or Youth Bible?
(Untitled)

Hi I am looking for the best version of a teen or youth bible. With all of the catholic approved new and old testament books included. A complete bible. I've looked on amazon.com for a long time and there is so many different choices. It is hard to pick the correct good one.

Please let me know if you know of a good one. If it is on amazon please include a link.
I actually need to find it online or on amazon specifically because I want to get it formatted for my ebook reader (kindle) Thats why I specifically am looking for it on amazon so that I can click for amazon to covert it to ebook format.

That point doesn't matter, after I get a few suggestions I can get it converted but I need to be able to find it online.

Well, "teen" and "youth" are hard to pin down - are we talking 13, or 19?

Still, I think the Saint Mary's Press ones are the best. Here, either of the first two or the 4th (Prove it!) if that's the type of bible you are seeking
http://www.bibleselector.com/r_nab_es.ht ml

and here, the first (which is just a NRSV version of the second bible in the list above)

A couple of Bible Questions
(Untitled)

What versions do you guys usually use? Do you think your version is easy to understand? Do you think it is OK for a Catholic to have Protestant Bibles?

And a couple of questions about the Fireside Catholic Youth Bible. I am going to get it for my birthday, but in the really nice leather version. What are your thoughts on this Bible? Do you (or daughters/sons) like it? I just wanted to learn more about it.

I like the King James for the poetic books and the comfort of familiarity. But for serious study I prefer the English Standard because the meaning of some Middle English words has changed.
It is ok for a Catholic to own any number of Bibles! Read, compare study. God like us to know His words.

I don't know the Fireside.

NRSV vs. NAB Versions of the Bilbe (Catholic versions)?
(Untitled)

Hey,

I am buying a new Bible soon but am not sure which version to get. I am considrering the New Resvised Standered Version The actual Bible is the NRSV Catholic Youth Bible. I have it now, but need a new one. Please see it on the store website:
http://www.inhisname.com/product.php?pro duct=24867

The other version is the NAB, and very close to the NIV. I love the NIV. The NAB has references in it to other similar verses. It will explain things, too. The one I might get is the same as the NRSV, Catholic Youth Bible, and is basically the same with the same reflections in it. I really want those reflections because they help me grow in faith, and I love the NAB version.
website for NAB:
http://www.inhisname.com/product.php?pro duct=300780

So my real question is NAB vs. NRSV and I want comments on these versions, with the Bibles that you guys use, why, and what Exodus 14:14 says (I see a verse in every version and compare) even if the Bible is not Catholic.

Another question: How do you guys like the parrall bible? Can you post a link for me to look at one? What is it like, is it easy to read, adn what versions does it have?

Dr. Jason BeDhun who compared the NAB, NRSV, and the NIV states that in order of accuracy The NAB is the second most accurate of the 9 bibles compared.

He further stated that the NWT was the most accurate of the 9 bibles reviewed (see below)

The NIV and the NRSV rated only above the paraphrased bibles as to accuracy.

New Testament:

While critical of some of its translation choices, BeDuhn called the New World Translation a “remarkably good” translation, “better by far” and “consistently better” than some of the others considered. Overall, concluded BeDuhn, the New World Translation “is one of the most accurate English translations of the New Testament currently available” and “the most accurate of the translations compared.”—Truth in Translation: Accuracy and Bias in English Translations of the New Testament.

“Here at last is a comprehensive comparison of nine major translations of the Bible:

King James Version, New American Standard Bible, New International Version, New Revised Standard Version, New American Bible, Amplified Bible, Today's English Version (Good News Bible), Living Bible, and the New World Translation.

The book provides a general introduction to the history and methods of Bible translation, and gives background on each of these versions. Then it compares them on key passages of the New Testament to determine their accuracy and identify their bias. Passages looked at include:

John 1:1; John 8:58; Philippians 2:5-11; Colossians 1:15-20; Titus 2:13; Hebrews 1:8; 2 Peter 1:1

  • The Catholic Youth Bible® Revised

Having taught scripture classes to Catholic high school seniors for years, I’m delighted, but not surprised, at the quality of “The Catholic Youth Bible”. I’m delighted because, while it does not bill itself as a study Bible, the new CYB contains a host of short inserts, maps, and articles reflecting contemporary scripture scholarship. These are presented palatably both visually and linguistically. Its young readers will find in their hands an incomparable tool which will not only assist them in growing in their understanding of and relationship to God, but will teach them so much of what they need in order to live as responsible Catholic Christians in an increasingly complex world. Too often, these bright young minds are woefully underestimated. Even...

    NIrV Kids#39; Devotional Bible Revised

We recently adopted our 13 year old daughter from Russia and she is still learning to read and speak English. I did not want to get a kids’ Bible story book because she is at an age where she needs to learn the teachings of Jesus. She had no religious background in Russia at all and everything is new to her. She really enjoys the devotionals and likes being able to check them off as we read them together. The topics are easy to relate to.

There are very few books that are interesting enough for a 13 year old and yet designed for a beginning reader. It took me a long time to find something that she would enjoy.

My whole life has bibles changed over time. My very first one was “The beginner’s bible”. When I read that I wanted the full text to carry to sunday school, not just stories. My dad accidentally bought a bible that was KJV, not looking at it close enough. I was so excited but then when I started reading all I could think of was “Whats goeth? Whats spake? Whats brethren?” My dad then realised it and surfed the net to find a good bible for me. Then he stumbled across this one. I was five years old when I got it. I was absolutely delighted! I used it till I was eight, then I switched to a NIV bible. It was great since the text was very easy to understand, and the type bigger than most. I really recommend this bible!
