Why do Catholics believe in the assumption of Mary if it is not in the Bible?

Ludwig Ott, author of the book Fundamentals of Catholic Dogma candidly says, "Direct and express scriptural proofs are not to be had."
Why did the Church not proclaim this dogma until 1950

Catholicism doesn't accept the truth that the Bible is the final and only authority on all matters. That is why

Catholic and Orthodox Reconciliation soon?

This affirmation by Catholics and Orthodox of each other as Sister Churches was given papal direction in 1967 when Pope Paul VI handed to Patriarch Athenagoras the brief Anno Ineunte (25 July). The brief affirmed that Orthodox and Catholics were already brothers "in very fact" by virtue of their common baptism, apostolic succession, priesthood, eucharist and participation in the gifts of God to His Church, and acceptance of the "fundamental dogmas of the Christian faith on the Trinity, on the Word of God who took flesh of the Virgin Mary". The Pope explicitly espoused a Sister-Church ecclesiology for our day:
For centuries we lived this life of "sister Churches," and together held the Ecumenical Councils which guarded the deposit of faith against all corruption. And now, after a long period of division and mutual misunderstanding, the Lord in enabling us to discover ourselves as "sister Churches" once more, in spite of the obstacles which were once raised between us.
Please: catholics and orthodox brothers, what do we feel about our churches becoming again One? And for the rest, if you are going to contribute, do it without insulting please. Thank you.
I actually want to tell you all that there are real signs of reunification, and soon. The pope is gonna office a joint mass iwith the patriarch in constantinople next month!

I don't know if you can call it a full "reconciliation," but Catholic and Orthodox have really made strides in understanding each other. The Catholic Church recognizes Orthodox sacraments, which is very telling.

Don't Protestants realize that their denominations conflict with each other, teaching different doctrines?

All the positive dogmas of the Catholic Church have the function of fundamental principles which the faithful accepts without discussion as being certain and sure by virtue of the authority of God, Who is absolute truth. They represent the mind of Christ as St. Paul says:

"But we have the mind of Christ." (1 Cor. 2:16)

"Jesus Christ yesterday, and today: and the same for ever." (Hebrews 13:8)

Since Our Catholic Faith comes from God, they are not open for debate, and they are not reversible.

The Christian is called to adhere to Christ and His teaching integrally; the unity of faith is the dominant motif of divine revelation on which St. Paul insists energetically, when he writes:

"I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no schisms among you: but that you be perfect in mind and in the same judgement." (1 Cor. 1:10)

There is, then, no place for "pick and choose" in the truths proposed to the Faith of Christians by the Infallible Teaching Church for they are bound in Heaven by God Himself. If something is decreed on earth and is also bound in Heaven, that thing must be the truth. Otherwise, God is no longer the Truth, which is contrary to the Gospel:

"And I will give to thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven. And whatsoever thou shalt bind upon earth, it shall be bound also in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose upon earth, it shall be loosed also in Heaven." (Matthew 16:19)

The Catholic Church is infallible because it is:

"the church of the living God, the pillar and the ground of the truth." (1 Timothy 3:15)

If a baptized person deliberately denies or contradicts a dogma, he or she is guilty of sin of heresy and automatically becomes subject to the punishment of excommunication.

Truth of the matter is that many Protestants like to speak for Catholics telling people insane and false statements stating that Catholics worship Mary, teach/practice non-biblical practices, ruled by the Pope, etc... But on top of all; they exclude Catholics from being a denomination of Christianity saying that Catholics are not Christian. Catholics are actually the first Christians. All of above are spoken against Catholic out of pure ignorance. Many base their opinions on other people’s opinions instead of studying Catholicism for themselves. I have been across many sites that are anti-Catholicism and never state everything true.

Protestants are just crazy...

Protestant still have it in their ignorant narrow minded skulls that Catholics worship the Virgin Mary... they need some schooling.

Notice that the Orthodox, Catholic, Assyrian Churches seem to being doing fine with no conflict, but the Protestants try to exclude Catholics from being Christian. Shame on them.

Protestants caused the division in Christianity.

Do all Christians believe the Bible on Jesus' "Virgin Birth"? Do Protestants reject "Immaculate Conception"?

Pope Pius IX Defines Immaculate Conception as Dogma (on THIS day, December 8th, in 1854) exactly 153 years ago today.

The Immaculate Conception is often confused with the Virgin Birth of Jesus, though the two Christian doctrines deal with entirely different events.

The Immaculate Conception asserts that Mary, the mother of Jesus, was preserved from the stain of original sin at the moment of her conception, was filled with grace by God, and lived her life completely free from sin.

This was decided by the Catholic church. I'm notsure where fundamental bible believing protestants will find proof of that in Holy Scriptures.

Can you quote chapter and verse for Mary's unexplainable devine sinlessness? If it is true, and I doubt that, did sinlessness continue after His birth?

The "Virgin Birth", on the other hand, asserts what about the conception of Jesus?

For that matter, where does the Word of God say that Josep's wife Mary STAYED a virgin, as Catholics do teach?

Bible believing Christians agree that Jesus was born to Mary while she was a virgin.

Bible believing Christians also know that 60 days after Jesus was born, Mary and Joseph started having sex and they produced four more sons and at least two daughters.

Matthew 13:55-56 names the four boys but not the girls.

To be clear, the children described in Matthew 13:55-56 are the biological children of both Joseph and Mary who is obviously no longer a virgin.

The teaching on the Immaculate Conception is a lie.

Its a man made doctrine which is not tolerated in a Bible believing church.

There is nothing in the Bible to support it.

Where is it written that we must believe in the Trinity to be saved?

The doctrine of the Trinity is regarded as fundamental by many churches, although the word “trinity” nowhere appears in the Bible. In fact, the word did not even appear in Christian literature until the beginning of the third century. Tertullian, who introduced the word, used it in a very different way than it is used today.

Both Protestant and Catholic Bible scholars recognize that the doctrine of the Trinity did not become church dogma until the fourth century. The Jews, whom God dealt with exclusively during the Old Testament times, never believed in a triune God. The rabbinical writings (Talmud) which date from Old Testament times are voluminous, yet the concept of a trinity is not once mentioned in them. The New Catholic Encyclopedia concedes that the doctrine of the Trinity is not taught in the Old Testament.(NEW CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA, 1967 edition, Vol. XIV, p. 306) Neither does the New Testament teach this doctrine.

You don't have to read it, it's simple. If you Believe in Jesus then you believe in God, if you believe in God then you belive in the Holy Spirit. They are all one in the same, like Clark Kent and Superman. Once you have accepted Jesus, you have accepted God in your life, and once you are baptized, you receive the Holy Spirit. Incase you don't know what the Holy Spirit a.k.a Holy Ghost is, it is your purified conscience telling you to do the right thing in a bad or wrong predicament. I can't assume you know these things, so I have to just say it, especially for those who don't know. May the Lord bless you with wisdom, knowledge, and revelation.

    Reacting to Modern Biblical Scholarship

Even with such a legacy and clear teaching, popular biblical scholars like the late Fr. Raymond Brown [1] continue to call into question the total inerrancy of Sacred Scriptures by ignoring and twisting not only Article 11 but even the preceding documents found in the associated five footnotes.  For example, in the appendix of his book, (1893) Pope Leo XIII acknowledged that the scientific affirmations of the Bible were not necessarily inerrant, since it was not God’s purpose to teach men science.” [6]

To understand the implications and logical conclusions of Fr. Brown’s train of thought, one only needs to refer to the following two brief examples:

The New Testament gives us no reason to think that Jesus and Paul were not deadly serious about the demonic world…. I do not believe the demons inhabit desert places or the upper air, as Jesus and Paul thought… I see no way to get around the difficulty except by saying that Jesus and Paul were wrong on this point. They accepted the beliefs of their times about demons, but those beliefs were superstitious. [7]
