The Catholic belief in the True Presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist and practice of keeping the Eucharist in the tabernacle affects the style and architecture of Catholic churches.
The guidelines of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops "Built of Living Stones: Art, Architecture, and Worship" state that:
A church building "is both the house of God on earth (domus Dei) and a house fit for the prayers of the saints (domus ecclesiae). Such a house of prayer must be expressive of the presence of God and suited for the celebration of the sacrifice of Christ, as well as reflective of the community that celebrates there."

A brief history of the Catholic Church from Pentecost till today in the style of quot; The History Channelquot; or quot; The Discovery Channel ...
The absurd claims that Catholics have always existed, Popes started with Peter, they wrote the Bible, and that Veneration no longer means worship are just a few of the hilarious make-up-history-as-we-go style of Catholic Church History.
Their own documents contradict their outrageous claims. Yet people believe them.
The problem is that there are not many independent historical documents and facts available, given that the Catholic Church spent centuries torturing and killing those who would not submit to its authority and destroying all those dissenters' literature. Well, most of it. The Catholic Church branded huge numbers of sincere Christians as heretics if they did no more than disagree about infant baptism or read manuscripts of the Bible for themselves. And we all know what the Catholic Church did to 'heretics' centuries ago.
An excellent book giving an alternative history is 'The Pilgrim Church' by E H Broadbent (a Pickering Classic). Read this and understand what Jesus meant when he said, 'The gates of hell will not overcome [my Church]' - his Church incorporating millions of non-Catholics!

I would like too know if anyone one is aware of all the autrocities committed by the Roman Catholic Church in History,Also of the comparrison of Revelations Mystery Babylon, and Daniels Beast? Eerie simularities too what the Roman Catholic Church committed in the early days through crusades and inquisitions...Also in Daniel where it talks about how this beast killed the saints of God,and she was drunk with the wine of her fornication, way too many simularities with the catholic church and how it forced catholosisim on the masses, and how the church (the TRUE CHURCH)went too the hills for 1260 years while the beast killed all who apposed them! And how God prepared a place for the true church of GOD in the mountains..All recorded in history, but I do not know of good books that record the catholic autrocities committed by them.I have the bible and what light it brings too the history of the catholic church would seem it goes hand in hand with thier murderous beginings.I know there are books out there that have this secular history documented.Anyone know any good books???
There is no "pope" in the Bible. Every "pope" is a false prophet of Satan.
1. Pope Sergius III (904 - 911) obtained his office by murder. He fathered several illegitimate children by Marozia, who assassinated Pope Leo VI (928 - 929), and put her own teenage son (John XI) as Pope.
2. Pope John XII (955 - 964) is described in the Catholic Encyclopedia as a coarse, immoral man. The Catholic collection of the lives of the Popes, the "Liber Pontificalis" said: "He spent his entire life in adultery." Catholic bishop Luitprand states that "he had no respect for single girls, married woman or widows - they were sure to be defiled by him."
3. Pope Boniface VII (984 - 985), John XII and Leo VIII were described by the Bishop of Orleans as "monsters of guilt, reeking in blood and filth."
4. Pope John XV (985 - 996) split the churches finances among his relatives and was described as "covetous of filthy lucre and corrupt in all his acts."
5. Pope Benedict IX (1033 - 1045) committed murders and adulteries in broad daylight, robbed pilgrims, and was regarded as a hideous criminal. The people drove him out of Rome: The Catholic Encyclopedia says, "He was a disgrace to the chair of Peter."
6. Pope Innocent III (1198 - 1216) promoted the Inquisition, surpassing all his predecessors in killing over one million people.
7. Pope Boniface VIII (1294 - 1303). The Catholic Encyclopedia states "Scarcely any possible crime was omitted - heresy, gross and unnatural immorality, idolatry, magic, simony ... his whole pontificate was one record of evil." Dante visited Rome and described the Vatican as a "sewer of corruption" and assigned Boniface VII, Nicholas III and Clement V to the "lowest parts of hell." He proclaimed to be an atheist and in 1302 issued the "Unum Sanctum" officially declaring the Roman Catholic church as the only true church, outside of which no one can be saved.
8. Pope John XXIII (1410-1415) was accused by 37 clergy witnesses of fornication, adultery, incest, sodomy, simony, theft and murder. It was proved by a legion of witnesses that he had seduced and violated 300 nuns. He kept a harem at Boulogne of 200 girls. He was publicly called the devil incarnate. He has been called the most depraved criminal who ever sat on the papal throne.
9. Pope Pius II (1458 - 1464) fathered many illegitimate children and taught others to do likewise.
10. Pope Paul II (1464 - 1471) maintained a house full of concubines.
11. Pope Sixtus IV (1471 - 1484) financed his wars by selling church offices to the highest bidders.
12. Pope Innocent VII (1484 - 1492) fathered 16 illegitimate children by various women.
13. Pope Alexander VI (1492 - 1503) committed incest with his two sisters and daughter. On 31 October 1501, he conducted the worst ever Vatican sex orgy.
14. Pope Paul III (1534-1549) as a cardinal fathered 3 sons and a daughter. He consulted astrologers.
15. Pope Leo X (1513 - 1521) "was possessed by an insatiable love of pleasure, revelry and carousing. (Catholic Encyclopedia). Luther visited Rome & said: "No one can imagine what sins & infamous actions are committed in Rome." A saying was: "If there is a hell, Rome is built over it."
16. Pope Joan was a female pope whose name was changed to Pope Zacharias. Luther, on visiting Rome reported her statue in a back street. John Huss referred to her in his defence at the Council of Constance and this went unchallenged. She died in childbirth while in a public procession.
17. Pope Eugene IV (1431 - 1447) condemned Joan of Arc to be burned alive as a witch, but Pope Benedict IV (1919) declared her a saint.
18. Pope Stephen VI (896 - 897) brought the dead body of former Pope Formosus (891 -897) to trial, hacked off his decaying finger and had him dragged through the streets of Rome and thrown into the Tiber river.
19. The "great schism" of 1378 lasted 50 years, where Italian and French popes cursed each other. Is this the same morally pure church that Christ left to preach the gospel? When confronted with such evil papal history, the Catholic church, which claims "infallibility", teaches that "A sinful pope ... remains a member of the church, and ... from whom we may not withdraw obedience." Catholic Encyclopedia Volume 4, page 435. Jesus said in Matthew 7:18,20, "A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit ... by their fruits ye shall know them."
20. Pope Alexander III decreed in 1170 that wills had to be made in front of a priest, or excommunication (cutting off from church and sentence to hell) would result. The Catholic church has much to be embarrassed about in it's history, as seen from these 20 popes.

The inquisition has been highly over rated in High School History courses because protestants and others have been taught exagerations. If it weren't for the inquistion you would be speaking in Arabic and praying to Alah. Many protestants criticise the Catholic Church for teaching about the Eucharist and the 7 Sacraments, yet the Eastern Churches and the Orthodox Church teach the very same things? Yet High School history in many places, doesn't even teach about the "East." The Middle Ages are called the "Dark Ages?" Why, only to make the church look bad. But the reality is that the Catholic Church built western civilization. Why not look at various issues in the Catholic Encyclopedia in your local library and see the Church's side of the issues? Because High School History courses have the motivation of making the Catholic Church look bad in order to promote a false idea of the Reformation. But the reality is that now kids are having no faith at all, except secularism.
I have been a Public School teacher and Instructional aid for many years. Public Schools teach Evolution as a fact! Not a theory. The public should consider why their local public school is spending so much time and money on Evolution. I don't care if you believe in evolution or not. My point is that evolution is being used to divide christians. Its doing a very good job at it too. The government's support of evolution (Your local public school IS GOVERNMENT) is only promoting the "take god out of everyting" today.
I got an idea. Why not read your son's or daughter's science textbook? Why not sit in on some science classes? Why not ask your kid what was taught in school today? Or you can do the stupid thing and blindly send your kid to school and think that the "teachers know what they are doing."
One person replied that the Catholic Church has killed millions. Can you give me names, places, dates and statistics. Not just "I feel" but actual historical data to back up your point. Please be as specific as you can be.
Public schools have no business picking on the Catholic Church. If the government is to remain neutral towards religion then why is it ok to teach bad things about the Catholic Church yet tell nothing of the protestant inquisition in Geneva with Calvin? You can't have a double standard, one for atheism, secularism, protestantism and then target Catholicism.
Where did you learn your high school history? in Catholic school no doubt.
I have a 4 page report in church history due in a week on any topic the subject. The problem i have is picking a topic which is always the hardest part. My teacher couldn't stress it more that the topic and the report have to be interesting or it's and automatic D+. So it would be awesome if you guys can help me out in picking the topic. And please don't give me any of that " why don't you try doing your own h.w." crap because all I'm asking for is topic help not answers.
I would suggest the report be on St. Ignatius of Antioch and His view of the Church since he was the first of the ante Nicene fathers to define the Church as those who gather around the Bishop. He was one of the most interesting and blessed of the early Church fathers and was the disciple of both St. John and St. Peter. He succeeded St. Peter as the 3rd bishop of Antioch and it is believed that St. Peter himself appointed him to this bishopric. God bless!

Holy Comforter Parish Blog: Church History: Good Friday
Good Friday is the Friday within Holy Week, and is traditionally a time of fasting and penance, commemorating the anniversary of Christ's crucifixion and death. For Christians, Good Friday commemorates not just a historical event, but the sacrificial death of Christ, which with the resurrection, comprises the heart of the Christian faith. The Catholic Catechism states this succinctly: This is based on the words of St. Paul: "[Believers] are justified freely by God's grace through the redemption in Christ Jesus, whom God set forth as an expiation, through faith, by his blood... (Romans 3:24-25, NAB). The customs and prayers associated with Good Friday typically focus on the theme of Christ's sacrificial death for our sins. The evening (at sunset) of Good Friday begins the second day of the Paschal...
Retreat Centers#39; History in the Catholic Church: Retreats and the ...
Retreat centers have been vital to the Catholic Church since the beginning, though not just anyone could go on retreat until recently. The following article spans the history of retreat centers from the Bible to medieval monasteries and beyond.
What is a Retreat?A retreat is a specific amount of time-a day, weekend, or month- devoted to developing relationship with God through prayer, penance, spiritual reading, and worship away from one's ordinary routine. Retreats are common for individual believers and groups within the Church who seek rest and connecttion with God beyond what is offered at the local church.
Retreats in the BibleRetreats date to the earliest Christianity and reflect Jesus' time spent in solitude and prayer in the Holy Scriptures. Jesus spent forty days in the desert, resisting Satan’s temptation through prayer and faith (Mark 4:1-11). He also sought time alone in the Garden of Gethsemane, the night before his trial and crucifixion (Mark 14:32-42). These examples have inspired Christians since to seek God through silence and solitude, the heart of a successful retreat.
