Thank you for all of your answers. Mainlife, please don't wring my neck :(. I don't know what school I'd go to if I got into both universities. I was just wondering what my chances were for Notre Dame because it is the only other school to which I am applying. I wish you the best of luck for regular action :).

I am biased but I disagree with Ranto, I am not sure why people would assume that Georgetown is a slam dunk with ND being ranked higher.

I think you have a very good shot and would be surprised if you didn't get in.

ND and Georgetown are very different schools so think about what factors are most important to you. If you are looking for the Catholic atmosphere, ND may be a good fit (plus it has one of the best pre-med programs out there with amazing acceptance rates to med schools). If you would rather be in a big city or don't want the Catholic atmosphere as much then Georgetown may be the best option.

I wish you the best of luck!

Torresdale High Schools from the 1960's?

I'm wondering if anyone knew about high schools in the Torresdale section that people would have attended in the 1960's - private, Catholic and public. The ones I've come across so far are:

Nazareth Academy
Father Judge
Lincoln High School
Archbishop Ryan
Swenson Arts & Technology High School
Northeast
Holy Cross
St. Hubert's

Have I missed any? Are there any high schools that were open in the 1960's but have now closed? Thanks.

Northeast Catholic Boys High School,

i have a 2020 sat (690 math/680 writing/650 reading)
gpa of 3.84 with a curve/ 3.68 without
varsity lacrosse for soph/junior/senior year
dance for 4 years

various volunteer work such as parents night, 5k run, teacher's assistant, summer camp cit, made blankets for babies in need, raised money for single mothers, etc.

if you can give me any feedback about my chances of getting in or any suggestions to increase my chances it would be greatly appreciated
and my rank is about 10 / 150ish
and i think i plan on writing my essay about how when i was younger, my doctors thought i had cancer but were not sure and then when my principal (who just came back from seeing the pope in italy) touched me, i later turned out to be okay
courses this year: Religion, Physics, psychology, ap us government, ap english, calculus II (there are only 6 ap courses in my school and by the time i graduate i will have completed 4)
and i am applying early action

It'll be tough, your GPA needs to be higher, and your schedule rigor as well, maybe take more AP classes?
Your volunteer work is alright, your extracurriculars are really good.

I would say with an outstanding college essay, you have a chance.

I want to go northeast for college?

Hey, I'm a freshman in high school and my GPA is between 3.6/4.0 I'm in the top track at my school. I take mostly honors classes. I go to a very prestigious catholic private school. I really don't want to be trapped in Louisiana and end up going to LSU. I want to go up north. I want to go to NYU. But everyone keeps telling me how hard it is to get into and how expensive it is. My guidance counselor seemed very supportive and recommended maybe going to Boston College because it is also a Jesuit school and they like my schools students. I really want to get a scholarship but I don't think my grades are good enough but I don't think I can afford to go up north, but it's to dream. I want to be a lawyer. What do you think is my best bet? Is it worth the experience to go up north or should I just stay in Louisiana blah!

Take a look at College of the Holy Cross which is west of Boston. It is:

- the oldest Catholic college in New England and Jesuit-run
- the highest academically rated Catholic college in USA by the Princeton Review, higher than Georgetown, BC, and Notre Dame
- they promise to meet 100% of demonstrated financial need
- the only Catholic college in the northeast in the top ten list of most beautiful college campuses:

According to the 2009 Princeton Review, these are the top ten for most beautiful campuses:

Princeton
Sweet Briar
Colgate
Wagner
Mt Holyoke
Scripps
Notre Dame
U of Richmond
U of San Diego
College of the Holy Cross

The Falcon Nest: Let The Record Show....

2003 – Apparently, someone forgot about the promise made in 1993, as the school system was still running at a profit, yet the OCE sent a bill to Northeast Catholic for payment of their debt. This “bill” was North’s debt for the year, which means the school spent more than it took in through tuition, fees, and fundraisers. That debt was satisfied by a generous donation by the Alumni Association’s “Save North Catholic” fund. 2006 – With the addition of the NC IT Academy, the OCE promised North that they would have 5 years to get the program off the ground and start making money, which would be given to the school in the form of tuition assistance. I wasn’t at that meeting, but the NC administration was either told, or got the impression, that...
