There is only one private school in my area...a catholic one. The only person with a religion in my family is my mom(christian), the rest of us don't really have one. Catholic is kind of like Christian, isn't it?
You have two questions.
First, Catholic education is meant for children of all faiths. Education is the first goal, although you will receive lessons in morality and Christian education - you may have to memorize the names of some Popes or learn some Church History, however you will not be required to take part in any Catholic religious practices you are not comfortable with. While most Catholic schools have Mass once a week or more often, non-Catholic students are generally allowed time for private meditation and prayer while Mass is going on.
Second, Catholicism is a branch of Christianity with some differences from the Protestant branches, though nothing so severe as to make it unrecognizeable. While you may not be familiar with the few Latin terms we use at Mass, or with the very formal nature of Mass (especially if your mom goes to a charismatic or evangelical free church where there is less structure and more emotion), you will recognize the psalms we sing, the Scripture we read, the prayers we say and probably most of the hymns. If you or your mom have concerns, I suggest you talk with the school's monsignor (mon-see-nyor), who is probably accustomed to non-Catholic students and will be able to answer your questions.

Are catholic schools private or there are catholic schools and private catholic schools?
Private schools, also known as independent schools, are not administered by local, state or national governments; thus, they retain the right to select their students and are funded in whole or in part by charging their students tuition, rather than relying on public (state) funds.
While Catholic schools are education ministries of the Roman Catholic Church. Presently, the Church operates the world's largest non-governmental school system. These schools aim to develop their students through participation in the sacramental life of the Church, study of religion and theology, a full curriculum in secular subjects, and a variety of extracurricular activities.
AND school uniforms are often a requirement for students in Catholic schools.

My son is only a few months old but we are already thinking ahead to the future. We live in a small town and the school system is not very good. The only other choice is to send our little one to a private school. The only private school in the area is St. Vincent Catholic Church and School, which seems to be a great alternative. We are not a religious family and I personally think it will be weird. What do you think? Take the private school route or live with the public school system? Thanks!
Does the school have an open house day for you to get a feel for the place.
I have 2 sons 1 in Catholic, 1 in public, I myself am a theology teacher in a Catholic High School. I find catholic schools loving and all embracing place of learning. I teach students of many faiths, christian, non-christian, non-practicing, atheist. It is not our goal to proletize. I would never want to change anyones religion. Rather to give students (teenagers) a place to question and express their ideas. Its an oppurtunity not given in public schools. We can share understandings celebrations of Ramadan and Christmas.
But bottom line without the fuzziness they are a great place to learn. They education is great. The support system is non-political. Its parents taking care of kids your kids. You'll love it and so will your little one.Its not weird at all.
Hello, my husband is Catholic and we are considering sending our child to private Catholic school when he is old enough to attend. Does anyone have any idea of how much it costs now ? We live in California in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Thanks !
It depends on the school. If you check their websites out, they will sometimes have the tuition costs listed. Also, ask if you qualify for scholarships!

This week, under the category of “news that made me say WTF!” was this little story about students at Georgetown University taping their mouths and chaining themselves to a statue in front of the school in protest of the fact the Georgetown doesn’t provide or help to provide contraceptive options like condoms to it’s students. The school, a private Catholic university stands by the religious policies of the Catholic church under which it was founded and refuses to provide any contraception that prevents the creation of life. Let the debate begin!

BOSTON – Today, a professional fundraiser from Rhode Island was arraigned in Worcester District Court in connection with the alleged theft of over $370,000 from a Catholic elementary school in Worcester, and orchestrating a sophisticated scheme to mislead the school into believing that a prospective donor was prepared to make a multi-million dollar donation. Michael Hlady, age 37, of Greenville, Rhode Island, was arrested yesterday and was arraigned this afternoon on the charge of Larceny over $250 by false pretenses. The arrest comes as the result of an extensive three-month investigation by Attorney General Coakley’s Office and Massachusetts State Police. Authorities allege that Hlady used the funds that he received from this scheme on such personal expenses...
