My new high School is terrible I'm a freshaman. People keep making rumors about me and not like kid/teen rumors bad ones Because of these untrue rumors I am the school slut and I hate going to school everyday. My parents are not going to move so its not an option. I go to a public school currently. I live about a 45 minutes south of Chicago. I've been looking online at schools like Marist and Providence but they are way to much money. I want to go to a new school but any school I can possibly go to is way to much money and my parents can't afford it.
Two thoughts here. You could contact the local Catholic schools and find out what scholarships might be available. Many have a FEW slots available for needy, deserving or interesting students. It can't hurt to find out.
OR... you could tackle the popularity issue and defeat the snobby rumor-spreading jerks at their own game. It's tough, you will take some knocks, but seriously... it's easier than you think and it would be a GREAT learning experience. I could help with tips on that if you ever like.

I'm currently a junior in high school, and I haven't taken the SAT yet. I took the PSAT and my score was equivalent to a 2050 SAT score (640 critical reading, 680 math, 730 writing). I'm going to take the SAT in 2 weeks, and the ACT in just over a month.
My gpa now is a 3.6. My grades this year aren't as great as they could be, and I'm working to raise them:
AP English - B+
AP US History I - A
AP Physics B - C+/B
Accelerated Precalc - B
Honors French - A
Religion - A
Teacher's Assistant - A
For next year, I signed up to take AP English (Lit and Comp), AP Calculus, AP US History II, Honors French 4, Honors Anatomy and Physiology, Honors Developmental Psychology, and Religion (4 years of religion is required for me, I go to Catholic school).
I'm an EMT and I volunteer 10 hours a week for my town's rescue squad, and I'm joining another local rescue squad when I'm old enough, which is when I turn 17 in May. I'm in National Honor Society and French Honor Society.
The colleges I'm thinking about applying to next year are University of Delaware, Rutgers New Brunswick, Providence, Boston University, TCNJ, and my reach schools would be NYU and Georgetown (my mom's cousin is the alumni interviewer for Georgetown, so he wants me to apply there)
Honestly, what's the chance that I'll get into each college? What can I to highly increase my chance of getting into the schools? What can I work on, other than just raising my grades?
Thanks to everyone who can help!
Score as high as possible on the SAT and ACT, then increase your GPA this year as much as you can.
Volunteering is great and will definitely look good. You could also call up each school and ask them what you need to do to get in. That helped for me.
You're in the home stretch now, don't give up and good luck!
I'm about to be a senior in high school. I go to a small catholic school. I am in the top 25% of my class. I am captain of the forensics (public speaking), editor of the school newspaper, school play for 3 years, i'll finish high school with 4 varsity letters, president of peer leadership, a lot of community service, student council rep for senior year, and student ambassador. I have taken all honors classes all four years, including AP English and AP Spanish (my school only offers 3 AP classes), and i have about a 3.5 weighted gpa (i know, not very strong). I haven't taken my SAT II's yet but my SAT I's were 1750 - 550 M, 580 V, 620 W (i'm taking them again in october after being tutored all summer)
I am a strong essay writer and I'm a hard worker and creative thinker in class so I will surely get a few solid recs. I am going to interview at my top schools, as well.
My favorite schools are College of the Holy Cross and George Washington. I am also applying to Boston University, Syracuse University, Penn State - U. Park, Loyola College in Maryland, University of Maryland, American University, Northeastern University, UConn, University of Vermont, University of Pittsburgh, Providence College and Trinity College. Yes that is a lot of schools haha.
I am so stressed out and paranoid I won't be accepted anywhere! It's a terrible feeling so if I could get a little feedback that would be awesome! Please/Thank you : )
I am also open to other schools, please reccomend some to me that I could get into!
College of the Holy Cross has a spectacular hilltop campus and is rated one of the ten most beautiful campuses in the nation by the Princeton Review and has a superb academic reputation. I brought my nephew to HC last spring for a visit and we were accompanied by my daughter, a freshman at Princeton at the time. We were blown away by the beautiful campus, the caliber of the information session and tour, The entire reception and work by the admissions office surpassed any we had seen. Between 2004-2005 my daughter and I toured 17 ivy and elite colleges and I cannot say enough good things about this one. I can see why you fell in love with the place. We did. Be sure to interview there and really get to know the school and express solid interest.

It's really about your grades, so whatever you do besides that is a plus, but if you could work on improving your grades, that should be enough to get you in, and just do your best at the interview.
All those Catholic universities such as Notre Dame, Georgetown and Fordham are ranked higher than Pepperdine University. And if you look at the schools that only go up to Master's degrees in the North, Villanova University, Loyola College in Maryland, Providence College are ranked as the first 3 and they're all Catholic universities.
But it shows that they can't stay biased for long because Elon University in the South is the highest ranked religious university that only goes up to a Master's degree and it's affiliated with the United Church of Christ. My happiness is crushed when I found out that the 2nd best religious university in the South that only goes up to a Master's degree is yet another Catholic university (Loyola University in New Orleans).
So off I go to the Midwest section, where yet ANOTHER Catholic university is ranked number 1 (Creighton University). And number 2 is ALSO A BLODDY CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY (Xavier University). An unbiased human must have started working on the list when it reached number 3 because a Lutheran university (Valpraiso University) is next on the list.
Hallelujah! The West rankings aren't so biased! The number one university (that only goes up to a master's degree) in the West is Trinity University, a Presbyterian school. But sadly, numbers 2,3,4 were more biased Catholic schools.
So are you convinced?
There is no Catholic bias, those universities have been well respected and maintain a high standard for many years. Catholics place a lot of importance on education and knowledge, as evident through their excellent schools and hospitals.
Peace in Christ
