When was the first singing of the Lord's prayer in the Roman Catholic Liturgy?
Organist Michael Scott - The Basilica of Saint Josaphat

Then, after singing a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives. (Matthew 26:30)

The singing of hymns goes back to the earliest of Christian times.

Although no one living knows, the Lord's Prayer certainly was sung before the sixth century during the origins of plainsong which in turn grew into Gregorian Chant.

Roman Catholics (and others who wish to answer) Have you ever attended an Eastern Catholic Divine Liturgy?
Organist Michael Scott - The Basilica of Saint Josaphat

When IJR was growing up Byzantine Catholic, the Sunday School teacher wanted us to get a good understanding the CATHOLIC or UNIVERSAL nature of the church, so she arranged for the class to attend a mass at a local Roman Catholic Church. While still a Catholic, IJR attended many other Masses as well. IJR was just wondering if any R.C had gone to an Eastern Catholic service. How did you like it?

I've been to a wedding at a Greek Orthodox church, does that count? The church was beautiful and the ceremony was very nice.

Has the Pope of the Roman Catholic Church celebrate Divine Liturgy of the Eastern Catholic Church?
Organist Michael Scott - The Basilica of Saint Josaphat

If not how can the sucessor of Saint Peter claims to have complete jurisdiction over the Eastern Churches when he does not even celebrate the Holy Divine Liturgy

I am not Catholic- I'm Orhtodox but first is there anything stoping him from celebrating the Liturgy of Saint James basil or John Chrysostom- there is nothing stopping the pope from doing so. I know of Catholic priests in the US in areas where there are not enough priests who will celebrate both the Eastern and Western rites so they could serve uniate and western rite congregations. The only thing that might stop the pope would be- what is the protocal for ecumincal councils- is there an eccumincal liturgy that dates back to the original 7 councils or did they just use the rite of the senior patriarch.?

What is the major difference between Anglican and Roman Catholic liturgy (mass)?
Organist Michael Scott - The Basilica of Saint Josaphat

The Liturgy of the Mass is intrinsically linked to the Sacrament of Holy Orders. The Catholic Church respects and admires all that is positive and good in the Anglican church, but is forced to acknowledge that Anglican Orders are not valid. Because there is no valid apostolic succession, there is no valid priesthood in Anglicanism. This means, fundamentally, that the Anglican liturgy is substantially different from the Catholic Mass. The main difference is that Anglican priests (some of whom believe that Our Lord Jesus Christ is really and truly present, Body and Blood, under the appearance of bread and wine) do not have the authority to TRANSFORM the bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Christ. Therefore, whereas this transformation really takes place in the Catholic Mass, it is only a SYMBOLIC transformation in the Anglican liturgy.

I hope this helps.

" Or the FSSP and IBP. Remember, as Cardinal Ratzinger, His Holiness was more than happy to celebrate the traditional Latin Mass. And he was very supportive of the formation of the FSSP. The IBP came into being during his pontificate. He certainly shares the liturgical outlook of these groups: one has only to see the reforms he has made to the Papal liturgy, which looks increasingly like the traditional Latin Mass. Even Stephenson remarks on the: ". . . But his convergence with the SSPX does not stop with liturgical matters. If one examines the Holy Father's approach to ecumenism, one finds a similar approach. Recently, Cardinal William Levada addressed a gathering in Canada where he said that "ecumenism of the return" was the real ecumenism. This could not be more in line with SSPX thought,...
