I'm simply curious as to my new school's mascot.
At my day camp, a counselor was kidding that our mascot was Jesus, but I, an atheist, am unsatisfied with the notion that my catholic school uses a religious icon as a mascot.
Can anyone offer a sufficient answer?

A Tough Witness: Sacred Heart School Declines Children#39;s of ...
Sacred Heart of Jesus School in Boulder, Colorado, recently informed the parents of two students that their children wouldn't be re-admitted for next fall's term.
Normally, that would be a matter between the parents and the school and not the stuff of national news. But not this time.
That's because the parents in question are a lesbian couple.
Father Bill Breslin, the parish priest, explained that the decision was motivated by concern for the children's well-being. According to Breslin, "If a child of gay parents comes to our school, and we teach that gay marriage is against the will of God, then the child will think that we are saying their parents are bad...We don't want to put any child in that tough position."
That prompted Breslin to ask an obvious question: "Why would good parents want their children to learn something they don't believe in?" He noted that "there are so many schools in Boulder that see the meaning of sexuality in an entirely different way than the Catholic Church does. Why not send their children there?"
...Preregistration open at Sacred Heart
— Sacred Heart Catholic School is accepting preregistration for kindergarten through 12th grade for the 2010-2011 school year.
Preregistration is open during March and April for all grades and will secure admittance slots for the upcoming school year. If specific classes fill to capacity, those interested may pay the preregistration fee and be placed on a waiting list based on a firstcome, first-served status.
To preregister a child in any grade, call or come by the schoolto pick up an information packet. The school’s number is (501) 354-8113, and regular hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. A fee of $30 per child is required to preregister students. Complete and return the form with preregistration fees.
In order to be admitted to kindergarten, a student must be 5 years old by Wednesday, Sept. 1. Kindergartners will need immunization records, a copy of their Social Security card, a copy of their birth certificate and a copy of baptismal records if thestudent is Catholic. Each kindergartner who is preregistered will be contacted to schedule a one-on-one preview on Tuesday, April 27, or Wednesday, April 28. Be sure to preregister prior to April 27.
