How did the medieval people survive from the selfish whims of the catholic saints?
Altar Dream

You see, the catholic saints persecute non-catholic people for centuries and centuries in order to proselytize them at that time. And they even killed or helped some of them to be killed if they didn´t want to be new catholics.
Don´t you think it´s incredible as Humanity has survived after that?

The Spanish Inquisition and The Crusades killed many. I spent a semester in college studying the torture devises the Spanish Inquisition and other religious zealots used. Unreal how sick priests can get.

Does anyone know the total number of Roman Catholic saints in all?
knockin' on heaven's door

I also want to know all of their names and actual biographies. I want to know all of this because I feel that it might be more than 144,000 predicted holy people of Revelation. Please give me specific answers and don't give me any hateful or weird fake answers. If you are an expert in all Roman Catholic saints please answer this. Thank you.

There are over 10,000 named saints and beati from history, the Roman Martyology and Orthodox sources, but no definitive "head count".

The 144,000 in Revelations is representative of a large number of people, not to be taken literally as 144,000.

When did the Catholic church begin praying to Mary and the Saints?
st peter's basilica ceiling and dome

I know the Catholic church was the first church; I just don't understand the prayers to Mary and the Saints. Could some Catholics help me out on this one?

Catholics ask saints to intercede for us with God. If we can ask living people to pray for us, surely we can ask the saints, because they are with God and in God in Heaven. This is not "invoking the dead": the saints are not "dead", but are fully alive in Christ and with Christ (more alive than you and I are right now!).

Secondly, Catholics do not "worship" the saints. We honour and venerate them, but this is fundamentally distinct from "worship", which is an act of adoration which we can only give to God Himself (to the Blessed Trinity). It is expressly forbidden, in the Catholic Church, to give "worship" to anyone other than God, since this is one of the 10 Commandments.

We ask saints to pray for us because we are One Body in Christ. St. Paul speaks about the Church as the Mystical Body of Christ, and St. Augustine develops this by saying: "Christ is the Head; we are the members, of the same Body". This unity in Christ means that we can intercede for one another in a very particular way. This mutual intercession is the fruit of love: love of God and love of neighbour.

As for the "when did the Church begin..." part of the question, the answer is: ALWAYS, i.e. from the beginning. This is because the Church has always realized that all her members are One Body in Christ, through our common baptism: we die and are raised with and in Him.

I hope this helps you. Good luck with your search. I pray for you.

How come many of the Catholic Saints are heretics?
Marguerite Marie Alacoque

one of them is some Arabian Heretic who ran away from the Church and then was burned to death by an Arab Jewish king because he wanted revenge for the Jews who was persecuted by the Christians.

eventually the Catholic Church made that heretic a Saint.

By the way his real name was al-Harith not Aretas.

well since no other catholics have stepped forward to defend their faith, i guess i will.

to answer your first question, some are heretics because they think they understand what God is trying to tell them (or they think he's trying to tell them something when he's not) but they dont get it and do crazy things in the name of religion. like persecuting a certain ethnic group or religious group.

also you who was saying all catholics are heretics, were not.

This week I wish to share with you important news about changes in staffing for the upcoming school year.  Mr. Richardson, middle school math teacher, has decided that he will not return to teach at All Saints next year.  While he continues to recover from surgery and remains in good health at this time, he has decided to pursue other opportunities during the 2010-2011 academic year.

I am pleased to announce that Miss Joanna McCullough will be the new middle school math teacher at All Saints beginning in August.  During the current year, she has served as fourth grade teacher and, as such, is already familiar with diocesan and school procedures.  As you may recall, Miss McCullough joined the All Saints faculty last summer after graduating from Franciscan University with an undergraduate degree in education and a concentration in middle school math and social studies. After speaking with and interviewing a number of candidates, I recognize Miss McCullough as the best candidate and the one who will take the program to new heights.  Her mastery of the curriculum, coupled with her demonstrated ability to engage all of the learners in her classroom, will further advance the program and our students’ understanding of math.
