Please help me on at least one of these questions!!!!! I REALLLLLLY need some answers. They don't have to be longer than like 2-3 sentences but I have no idea what the answer is and I've looked on the internet and can't seem to find an answer!!!! please help!!! best answer will get more points!!!!!!! THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS!!!!!

We believe that saints act as role models for obedience to God's will. We also ask them to pray for us.
Catholics believe that the saints are in heaven and that they can pray with us as part of our community. This is what Christ himself tells us in scripture.

We do not pray TO them. That is wrong "Catholic bashing" information.

One of the corporeal works of mercy is to "bury the dead." Attend the funeral or the wake if you can, and/or send condolences or mass cards, or something to the family of the deceased. It depends on what you are able to do. It is not meant to be a burden.

You can also include the souls of the deceased in your prayers, asking for God's mercy on them.

The five newest Saints in the Catholic Church

One of the more prominent new saints is Father Damien, a Belgian priest who dedicated his life to helping lepers in Hawaii, living among them and ...

Are the visual depictions of saints within the Roman Catholic church a form of idolary?

I am not trying to instigate anything, and I am not anti-Catholic. I am just curious to get a Catholic perspective on saints and iconography?

Yes but of course they are never going to admit that.

does orthodox church have devotions to the virgen, saints as catholic church?

for example if there is people who ask for favor to Saint Jude in the Orthodox Church as Catholic do.,. like prayers to Saint jude, to the virgin.. if there are virgins like virgen of guadalupe, virgen of carmen ect...?
could a catholic take the communion with the orthodox church?
are there prayers to saint jude, saint sebastian.. novels..or books for praying them?
put me websites about these orthodox devotions plz?

Yes, we have prayers to the saints. My congregation is dedicated to St. Andrew the First-called, and we sing the prayer to him: "As the first called of the Apostles, and brother of their leader, do you Andrew implore the Master that peace may be given to the world, and to our souls great mercy." We also sing the Ave Maria in private devotions and things.

So, yes, we do have special devotions and prayers to the saints.

No, a Roman Catholic may not take Communion in an Orthodox Church, and our Tradition forbids us from taking Communion in the RCC as well. You must be Orthodox to receive the Holy Gifts.

EDIT:
Seeing your additional information, I have added two websites with very general information on the saints, including the Troparia and Kontakia we sing.

The Troparion to St. Jude:
Divinely we praise you, O Jude, as a faithful witness,
Knowing you to be the brother of Christ.
You trampled on delusion,
And so preserved the faith.
Today as we celebrate your holy memory,
By your intercessions we receive remission of sins.

The Kontakion to St. Jude:
You were chosen as a disciple for your firmness of mind:
An unshakable pillar of the Church of Christ,
You proclaimed His word to the Gentiles,
Telling them to believe in one Godhead.
You were glorified by Him, receiving the grace of healing,
Healing the ills of all who came to you,
O most praised Apostle Jude!

He also has these:
Troparion:
First-enthroned of the apostles,
teachers of the universe:
Entreat the Master of all
to grant peace to the world,
and to our souls great mercy!

Kontakion:
Today Christ the Rock glorifies with highest honor
The rock of Faith and leader of the Apostles,
Together with Paul and the company of the twelve,
Whose memory we celebrate with eagerness of faith,
Giving glory to the one who gave glory to them!

What is the purpose of the candles of the saints at the Catholic church?

I've seen the candles with the saints names on the side and am wondering if they are simply for lighting or if there are prayers that go along with them? I'm a Presbyterian, so we don't have them and I am curious.

Also, would it be disrespectful to use the candles for decoration? I just think they are really cool.
*please excuse the typos!*
Thank you everyone!

Lighting a candle is a symbol of asking a saint to pray for you.

Catholics share the belief in the Communion of Saints with many other Christians, including the Eastern Orthodox, Anglican, Episcopal, and Methodist Churches.

The Communion of Saints is the belief where all saints are intimately related in the Body of Christ, a family. When you die and go to heaven, you do not leave this family.

Everyone in heaven or on their way to heaven are saints, you, me, my deceased grandmother, Mary the mother of Jesus, Mother Teresa and Pope John Paul II.

As part of this family, you may ask your family and friends living here on earth to pray for you. Or, you may also ask the Blessed Virgin Mary, Saint Andrew, or your deceased grandmother living in heaven to pray for you.

Prayer to saints in heaven is simple communication, not worship.

Asking others to pray for you whether your loved ones on Earth or your loved ones in heaven is always optional.

And I have not even began to discuss saints as role models who said "Yes!" to God.

For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, section 946 and following: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt1s ect2chpt3art9p5.shtml#946

With love in Christ.
