They are near the old farm along that little drag from the Serra Catholic high school to the soccer fields
Those are "Monterey Pines"... They grow all along the Cali coastline from Monterey to south of Dana Point and are very picturesque when all windblown and weathered...

because it certainly sound races to me.
I got this off this schools web page
6. Students are admitted to Serra High School without regard to race, color, or national origin. In those cases where there are more applicants than openings, Catholic students will be given preference over those who are not Catholic.
Of course it does sound like racism. What about muslim or jewish students? they don't have chance or what? The school should the first applicants to be admitted to school. That should be fair. I don't believe in racism and if they saying catholic students will be given preference then they shouldn't say students are admitted without regard to race, color, or national origin
hello loves
so like i said in the question i want to go to stanford
i currently attend junipero serra high and i'm going into my junior year
i'm a varsity swimmer, a varsity academic decathlete, a member of LIFE Team, i have three AP classes, i generally earn a 3.9 or higher, a devoted catholic, and a pretty good person
stanford is my absolute dream school, i mean it's number five in the nation (not to mention starting in 2010 it's free for families like mine).
so does anyone have any advice on making myself more competitive?
umm... ownpool thanks for you help but there is no need to insult my writing skills. this is yahoo! answers not an application, therefore i'm not trying to be exact. i could write circles around you if i wanted to...
I have a few questions:
- Have you taken the PSAT's? Most people who want to get into good colleges like Stanford take them sophomore year so they know what it's like and what to study for in junior year, when it counts, and they then know what to study for when they take the SAT's. You need an excellent SAT score to have a chance at Stanford.
- Do you know your exact GPA, weighted and not? You may have a higher/lower GPA than you are anticipating, which may be a surprise when application time rolls around.
- Are your extracurricular activities what *you* want to pursue, or are you just packing your resume? It's much better to have quality over quantity.
- Are you taking a course load that represents your academic talents? Since you are a academic decathlete, you could probably take more than three AP classes.
- Do you have a solid idea for your essay(s)? Maybe you can mention your faith in one of them.
- Do you have any spare time? If so, I would join another extracurricular activity that is important to you to maximize your chances.
Notes:
- Stanford is actually tied for 4th place with MIT.
- I'm sure ownpool didn't want to insult you. They just wanted to point out that your grammar in this instance is less than ideal, giving them the impression that you don't know how to use proper grammar (at least you don't use chatspeak).
- It probably will be harder for you to get in with your financial situation, simply because there are probably lots of other people with the similar situation applying for the financial aid benefits that other top schools might not have.
- Sorry, but 'generally good person' doesn't matter to the admissions officers at Stanford. However, it will matter to them the level of recommendations you get from your favorite teachers/coaches!
- Remember, there is no formula to being accepted by a prestigious, elite university like Stanford. All you can do is try your best, which it seems like you're doing.
All the best of luck!
**Edit: I see with your other questions that you live in California. I hate to break it to you (it's OK, I live in San Diego and have Stanford aspirations as well), but when you live in California, it's harder to get into a private college because they're looking for 'diversity' across the states.
