Keiton is 7 years old and was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) in June 2003, 4 weeks ago in the last month of treatment he relapsed! The disease took another form of Leukaemia - Acute Myeloidblastic Leukaemia (AML). For this process to occur it is very unusual and extremely rare.
He is now an inpatient at The Royal Marsden in Sutton where he will be having intensive chemotherapy and Radiotherapy before he has his Bone Marrow Transplant, which is the only way to cure him, with-out one he will DIE!!!!!
Because he is mixed race (white mother, black father) his tissue type is very unusual and we are still looking for a perfect match donor, as we have not been able to find one on any of the world-wide registrars. The potential donor must be of the same parental background and be aged between 18 40 years old.
We have set up further drive/clinic days for people coming down to give a blood sample to be a potential match for Keiton:
Sunday 1st October, Time 11am till 3pm at the St. Edmunds Catholic Church, 115 Hertford Road, London N9 7EN
Sunday 8th October, Time 1pm till 4pm at the Christian Life Fellowship, The Borough Hall, Royal Hill, London SE10 8RE
Wed 11th October, Time 4pm till 7.30pm at Leopold Primary School Hawkeshead Road, Harlesden, London NW10 9UR
Thu 12th October, Time 5pm till 8pm at Katherine Road Community Centre, 254 Katherine Road Forest Gate E7 8PN
One of the procedures for removing the bone marrow stem cells is very simple and near on painless. A small needle will be placed in each arm and the blood is removed from you left arm and is passed through a machine which removes the Stem Cells and the blood is then passed back into your right arm. It will only take 2/3 hours out of your day to save Keitons life!
Time is running out for Keiton and the only way to save his life is to go give blood directly to one of the clinics so we need people to contact the National Blood Service on 0845 7-711-711 www.blood.co.uk or the African Caribbean Leukemia Trust on 0208 667 1122 www.aclt.org to find out YOUR nearest blood clinic. Go down and give some blood, PLEASE!
Keiton is truly an amazing boy to be able to go through what he has for the last 3 years and still have a smile on his face, please help us keep that smile alive.
Paris, Keitons mum is an incredible woman and single mother, who has been a tower of strength for him and now really needs your help to make her dream come true and watch her much loved son grow up and have a fulfilling life.
We have the backing of the African Caribbean Leukemia Trust & Anthony Nolan Trust www.anthonynolan.org.uk 02072841234.

German philosopher Edith Stein (1891-1942) was a leading proponent of the phenomenological school of thought led by Edmund Husserl in the first half of the twentieth century. In her writings, Stein attempted to reconcile phenomenology with her Catholic beliefs in works on Thomas Aquinas, St. John of the Cross, and the topic of women in the Church. A Jew by birth who converted to Catholicism, she was killed in a Nazi concentration camp as a Jew and beatified as a Catholic martyr in 1987. She is considered a martyr by both Jews and Catholics for her death in the concentration camps of the Nazi regime during World War II. She is also listed in The Central Database of Shoah Victims' Names by Yad Vashem.
In 1942, the Nazis began removing Jews from the Netherlands, and Stein urgently applied for a Swiss visa in order to transfer to a convent in Switzerland. Her sister was unable to arrange similar travel arrangements, however, and Stein refused to leave without her. On August 2, 1942, the sisters were removed from the convent at Echt by Nazi troops and transported to a concentration camp at Amersfoort for a few days before being sent on to the Auchwitz camp in Poland. While nothing is know about their last days or the exact circumstances of their deaths, it is assumed that the women were among the many people killed in the Nazi gas chambers, placed in mass graves on the site, and later cremated.
In 1987, decades after the travesties of the Jewish Holocaust, Stein was beatified by Pope John Paul II, who lauded her as a Catholic martyr and also praised her phenomenological works. This created controversy among Jewish groups, who were upset that she was remembered in this way since the reason she was killed was because she was a Jew, not because she was Catholic. In an apologetic statement, John Paul II acknowledged that her fate was a symbol of the great loss of Jewish life during World War II. This discussion highlighted the difficult, but important place that Stein holds among both Jews and Catholics.
The Martyrdom of Edith Stein or Doing Jewish of Edith Stein?
1)Due to the Anti-Semitism of the the Nazi regime, she had to give up her academic career (although she was able to continue writing and this eventually led to her entrance to Carmel).
2)As a Jewess, she closely identified herself with "her people" -- their suffering were hers too, as we can induce from her words to her sister, Rosa, as she was leaving Echt Carmel: "Come, let us go for the sake of our people". She had previously written a request to her superior to be able to make a self-offering for the sake of her people. Her writings also show her growing understanding of the identification of her fate with that of her people. Her suffering took the form of a moral torture.
3)She endured the inhumane treatment of the Nazi guards, the overpowering feeling of hopelessness in the concentration camp, the inhuman conditions of the train carts that transported her from Echt to Westerbork, and finally to Auschwitz-Birkenau. She underwent the humiliating "physical examinations" in the camp. Finally she was killed in the gas chambers of Auschwitz-Birkenau with her fellow Jews and buried in the mass grave along with her fellow Jews.
Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Martyrs' and Heroes' Remembrance Authority, was established in 1953 by an act of the Israeli Knesset. Since its inception, Yad Vashem has been entrusted with documenting the history of the Jewish people during the Holocaust period, preserving the memory and story of each of the six million victims, and imparting the legacy of the Holocaust for generations to come through its archives, library, school, museums and recognition of the Righteous Among the Nations.
Edith Stein is listed as a Jew who died during the Holocaust as a Jew. Non-Jews and apostate Jews are not listed, she is not listed as Jewish/Catholic, Hebrew/Christian, or a Apostate Jew but a Jew.

Wonderful Question Sara,
As one who old enough to remember this period of our history, I found you question very interesting. Edith was born Jewish, but then when of age got into athiestism, and finally to becoming a Catholic. She was someone who was on a very spiritual journey, searching for answers. Many of my fellow Jews will say she was a apostate Jew, and many will say Catholic, personally if you look at what she did that I personally believe in her heart she was Jewish to the very end. Somewhat like Esther, she stood her ground even as a nun to reach out to her people, and never forgot who she was, she even took to herself on sabbath, then when Germany started their quest to rid the world of the Jewish people, she made atleast 2 known attempts to see the then pope to beg for her people, for the church to do something to save them, she was denied both times when she pushed to see the pope while she in Rome, finally she order out of the netherlands to safety, and she refused to go witout her sister, then instead she reminded her sister of their people and returned and ended up being murdered in the gas chambers. To me personally she to upon herself the horror of what was happeneing to her people and knowing she would die choose to die with her people and as a Jew. The sad thing is many have tried to in someway let the Nazi's define who is Jewish and they don't have that right, Our G-d defines who we are! To me personally she and according to our Law she was Jewish, however that is were some Jewish people will spilt hairs, and to kate here is your answer about doing Jewish, to me personally Edith in the end was Jewish to the very end by her actions, and that is how Yad Vashem i am thinking sees her as they don't list her as a nonjew or gentile,or christian, but as a Jew period, I believe when she made her choice to go to her people rather than safety she at that moment returned to being Jewish, it is recorded when she was asked who she was like Esther proudly proclaimed she was Jewish and made no attempt to alter that. Even as you showed Pope John Paul II even acknowledged that her fate was a symbol of the great loss of Jewish life during World War II. So in the end to me she was born Jewish and died as a Jew, not as a catholic nun, for only G-d could have placed the burden of her people so heavy on her heart to have returned to them. So to Kate theres your answer, also I have many friends who lost loved ones and to us no one who was born Jewish and had convert to another faith, or as you say messiancs would we see as anything other then a fellow Jew who was murdered by the Nazi's because of the way they were murdered, only G-d knows what was in their heart or what was said in their last moments of life therefore it is not ours to judge it is our G-ds, but I believe they should be honored as Jews as they born Jewish and perished as Jews and to say otherwise to me dishonors them and their families. Shalom Everyone

Transformation at St Thomas More RC Primary « CAFOD Portsmouth
Ask any child at St Thomas More’s Catholic School and we hope they will be able to tell you what the word “transformation” means – particularly if you say something about bees!
CAFOD Assembly
In our first assembly after half term children heard about CAFOD’s work in setting up bee keeping in Fort Portal in Uganda. How with a loan and some training, a small group have been encouraged to set up a bee keeping business. Bees we all know “transform” pollen into honey but the honey “transforms” lives – lives of families like Sylvanno and Benjamin – for the honey provides food, money, medicine and an income which helps fund books for schooling.
CAFOD came to thank the children for all their fundraising in the past. Particularly the money they had recently raised for the people of Haiti by covering a giant map of Haiti with coins they brought in. Money that CAFOD partners will transform as quickly as possible into emergency aid.
