On Good Friday, which is a celebration of Jesus’ crucifixtion, people are not allowed to eat meat. On Easter Saturday the Christians take baskets full of coloured eggs, ham, sausage, bread and cakes and go to the church to have the food blessed. In the basket there is also salt, pepper, horseradish and a butter lamb. Everything is decorated with branches of cowberry.

Good Friday procession: St. Patrick Cathedral sets walk today - El ...

Friday calls on Christians to reflect on the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, which thousands of El Pasoans will observe through solemn hymns, prayers or re-enactments of the Passion.

On the streets around St. Patrick Cathedral, clergy and faithful will mark not only Jesus' suffering today but also that of modern-day people -- including those who have no jobs, who lack health care or who live threatened by violence along the border.

Led by Bishop Armando X. Ochoa, Catholics will carry a large wooden cross as they pray the 14 stations in a procession around the cathedral.
