Jehovah's Witnesses got me thinking...
Jesus was condemning religious titles with his words below; how does the Catholic Church reconcile Jesus' instruction with its fondness for such titles and with "Father" in particular?
(Matt. 23:8,9, KJV) But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren. And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.
The apostles and early church leaders were largely married, although it seems St. Paul wasn't (St. Paul even wrote to recommend singleness for the Lord). Yet even St Paul wrote that the then-future apostasy would forbid ministers to marry. How does the Catholic Church reconcile this seeming indictment?
(1 Tim. 4:1-3, KJV) Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; Forbidding to marry
Jesus was clearly discussing religious titles specifically, and not simply a mindset or attitude. The whole idea of divinity schools and seminaries conflicts with true Christianity.
(2 Corinthians 3:1-3) Are we starting again to recommend ourselves? Or do we, perhaps, like some men, need letters of recommendation to you or from you? 2 You yourselves are our letter, inscribed on our hearts and known and being read by all mankind. 3 For you are shown to be a letter of Christ written by us as ministers, inscribed not with ink but with spirit of a living God, not on stone tablets, but on fleshly tablets, on hearts.
(2 Corinthians 10:12) For we do not dare to class ourselves among some or compare ourselves with some who recommend themselves. Certainly they in measuring themselves by themselves and comparing themselves with themselves have no understanding.
(Matthew 20:25-26) Jesus, calling them to him, said: “You know that the rulers of the nations lord it over them and the great men wield authority over them. 26 This is not the way among you
(2 Corinthians 1:24) Not that we are the masters over your faith, but we are fellow workers for your joy
The seeming Scriptural indictment at 1 Timothy 4:1-3 is interesting. Who else or what else has ever claimed to represent Christianity and also "forbidden to marry" if not the Catholic Church? Jehovah's Witnesses see no other fit for this Scripture, and Catholicism seems unable to suggest one.

Who wants to see the Punishment for turning away from God?
A reading the Letters to the Hebrews, "Penalties of Disobedience. Strive for Peace with all men, and for that holiness without which no one can see the Lord. See to it that no man falls away from the grace of God; that no bitter root springs up through which many may be come defiled; that there be among you no fornicatior or godless person like Esau, who sold his birthright for a meal. You know that afterward he wanted to inherit his father's blessing, but he was rejected because he had no opportunity to after his choice, even though he sought the blessing with tears. You have not drawn near to an untouchable mountain and a blazing fire, nor gloomy darkness and storm and trumpet blast, nor a voice speaking words such that those who begged that they be not addressed to them, for they could not bear to hear the command: 'If even an animal touches the mountain, it must be stoned to death.' Indeed, so fearful was the spectacle that Moses said, 'I am terrified and trembling.' No, you have drawn near to Mount Zion and the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to myriads of angels in festal gathering, to the assembly of the first born enrolled in the spirits of just men made perfect to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood which speaks more eloquently than that of Abel. Do not refuse to hear him who speaks. For if the Israelites did not escape punishment when they refused to listen as God spoke to them on earth, how much greater punishment will be ours if we turn away from him who speaks from heaven!' And that 'once more' shows that shaken, created things will pass away, so that only what is unshaken may remain. Wherefore, we who are recieving the unshakeable kingdom should hold fast to God's grace, through which we may offer worship acceptable to him in reverence and awe. For our God is a consuming fire."
Where is the new covenant from God? Which most of us are breaking and then our punishment will be like of our ancestors who broke the first covenant.
maybe if you knew ancient Greek you would know Catholic means universal and universal means the world. It says world a bunch of times in the books and letters I have given you.
Well let me say this, if it wasn't for us Catholics; you wouldn't be here, you wouldn't have bibles to read; because Martin Luther used our bible as a blue print to write his own; but he took 7 of books that would help the world out. You wouldn't have schools, colleges, doctors, banks, money, laws, libaries; hope I spelled that right, and everything in America; oh you wouldn't have America.
G-man; this is just for you. all the other people are very ignorant this morning. G-man; do you believe Jesus is the Lord; the Christ; God Himself? email me with answer and then I will help you get in touch with the Catholic Church in your area so you can be baptized and receive all the sacraments and so you will be home in Rome and safe from the world.
I told you were to find it; but did you? no because of ignorance you all have. you do not know what it takes to form a complete conscience; first step is to listen and to learn other information that is the truth. but your type of ignorance is that you are capable of possessing knowledge, but you don't. take some sociology or the study of the mind classes and you will find out a lot about you all.
catholic = καθολικός
katholikos
oh if you need a place to find it; try the original greek bible, made after the Hebrew Bible.

Catholics are the only true church made by Christ.
well i am not a Protestant and not even a Christian
but i do read a lot about the Catholic Church
i like the Catholic Church, and to read about it.
the catholic church (as always) keeps these traditions as treasures of the church which st paul refers to in these verses? Remember me in everything and maintain the traditions precisely as I have handed them on to you’ (1 Corinthians 11,2).
‘Stand firm and hold to the traditions which you were taught by us’ (2 Thessalonians 2,15).
‘I sent Timothy to remind you of my ways in the Lord as I teach them everywhere in every community’ (1 Corinthians 4,16-17).
‘You have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed’ (Romans 6,17).
To this tradition belonged information
about Jesus’ passion, death, burial, rising on the third day and the resurrection appearances (‘I handed on to you what I have also received . . . .’; 1 Corinthians 15,1-11);
the institution of the Eucharist (‘I received from the Lord what I in turn handed on to you’, 1 Corinthians 7,10);
the prohibition of divorce (1 Corinthians 7,10);
and many other sayings of Jesus.
Protestants combine small "t" traditions with the "T" Traditions that the Catholic Church believes we are commanded to maintain.
Big T Traditions are the action of Christ passed down through the Apostles to the present day Catholic Church.
We call these Sacraments or "Sacred Actions"
Outward signs instituted by Jesus to convey Sanctifying Grace.
Baptism in the Jordan River-God would not need to be Baptized yet Jesus was teaching us through His works.
Confessing of Sins and Sacrament of the Sick would be Jesus healing sinners of spiritual and physical ailments through His works.
Holy Eucharist Jesus changed bread and wine into His Body Blood Soul And Divinity at the Passover before His death and resurrection.
Holy Orders /Confirmation Jesus conferred the Holy Spirit upon His Chosen leaders and others at Pentecost.
The Protestant reformers had no legitimate mission from God (or from someone given power by God) to reform the Church:
Jesus Christ instructed His Apostles to preach the Gospel to the whole world, therefore they had an "immediate" mission from God. St. Paul sent Timothy of Ephesus and Titus of Crete as Bishops to help him on his first mission, therefore they had a "mediate" mission from someone given the power by God to send them.
On the other hand, never have we seen any of the Protestant reformers show any mission from God or from anyone else to reform the church. Rather it is readily apparent they wrongfully took it upon themselves to make reforms. "How shall they preach unless they be sent"? Romans 10:15.
No individual has the right to associate himself with the Apostles or attempt to act under their authority; the individual must be sent or commissioned with divine authority. "He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up another way, the same is a thief and a robber" John 10:1. Here we see Martin Luther openly agreeing with this.
Consider verses such as "As the Father hath sent me, I also send you" John 20:21 and "He that receiveth whomsoever I send, receiveth me" John 13:20.
How can people without any authority attempt to make such drastic decisions affecting a divinely founded, global Church? Laity or princes do not have authority or power to start such a mission, rather someone must be sent legitimately, in Apostolic fashion, such as from a Bishop, or their mission is null. "Neither doth any man take the honor to himself but he that is called by God, as Aaron was." Hebrews 5:4
If you say the reformers were given appropriate mission to reform the Catholic Church, then we ask who is the authority that sent them? We know it was not the Catholic Church for the ideas of the Reformation are against Catholic teaching, and it was not the Lutheran and other Protestant churches for they were not yet formed when the reformation was being organized. So on who's authority was the mission of the Reformation?
If the church from which the Protestant reformers came were true, they can only be labeled heretics for having left it. And if the church from which the reformers came were NOT true, then that church could not have given the reformers true mission to reform the Catholic Church.
ah;, lady, the roman catholic church is in unity with the holy see of rome, if your church does not do so, they separate themselves from the true church, since it the roman catholic church was here first!!
The only relevant Scripture I can think of is the plainly stated will of Christ "that they all may be ONE". There is also the biblical prophecy of the Protestant "reformation" (2 Tim 4:3-4)
From Scripture, we can see that the Church:
is one, unified
Matthew 12:25, 16:18, John 10:16, John 17:20-23, Acts 4:32, Romans 12:5, Romans 16:17, 1 Corinthians 1:10-13, Corinthians 3:3-4, Corinthians 10:17, Corinthians 11:18-19, Corinthians 12:12-27, Corinthians 14:33, 2 Corinthians 12:20, Ephesians 4:3-6, Philippians 1:27, 2:2-3, 1 Timothy 6:3-5, Titus 3:9-10, James 3:16, 2 Peter 2:1
is holy, but not all who belong to it will be saved
Matthew 7:21–23, Ephesians 5:25–27, Revelation 19:7–8
is universal ( "katholikos" in Greek, or "Catholic")
Matthew 28:19–20, Revelation 5:9–10
is Apostolic
Matthew 16:18-19, Matthew 9:6-8, John 20:21-23, Acts 5:5, Ephesians 2:19–20
is hierarchical and has bishops (episkopos), priests (presbyteros or "elders"), and deacons (diakonos)
Acts 1:20, Acts 15:2-6, Acts 20:28, Acts 21:18, Philippians 1:1, 1 Timothy 3:1-2, 1 Timothy 5:17, Titus 1:7, Hebrews 11:2, 1 Peter 5:1, 1 Peter 2:25,
is the Pillar and Ground of Truth
1 Timothy 3:15
is the "light of the world", visible, cannot be hid
Matthew 5:14
was founded by Christ through Peter, whom He made the Church's earthly father, and the Gates of Hell cannot prevail against it
Matthew 16:18-19 (see also page on Peter as "The Rock" for evidence of Peter's authority among the Apostles)
We can see that the early Church's priests and bishops:
were sent and commissioned by Jesus
Mark 6:7, John 15:5, John 20:21, Romans 10:15, 2 Corinthians 5:20
were ordained and acted as representatives of Jesus
Mark 3:14, Luke 10:16, John 13:20, Acts 14:23, Acts 16:4, 1 Timothy 2:7, 1 Timothy 4:14, 1 Timothy 5:23, Titus 1:5
had the authority to bind or to loose ("to forbid" and "to permit" with reference to interpretation of the law, and "to condemn" or "to acquit")
Matthew 16:19, Matthew 18:18, Luke 24:47, John 20:21-23, James 5:15, Acts 5:2-11, 1 Corinthians 5:3-13, 2 Corinthians 2:5-11, 2 Corinthians 5:18, 1 Timothy 1:18-20, Titus 3:10
had the authority to perform Baptisms and offer the Eucharist
Matthew 28:19, Luke 22:19, Acts 2:38-41, Acts 2:42, Acts 2:46, Acts 20:7, 1 Corinthians 10:16
referred to themselves as "fathers" and thought of themselves as "fathers"
1 Corinthians 4:14-15, 1 Thessalonians 2:11, 1 Timothy 1:2, Titus 1:4, 1 John 2:13, Philemon 1:10 (Compare KJV with NIV)
offer pure sacrices and incense
Malachi 1:10-11
annointed the sick
Matthew 10:1, Luke 9:1-2, Luke 9:6, James 5:13-15
performed exorcisms
Matthew 10:1, Mark 3:15, Luke 9:1
extolled celibacy for those called to it (note that in the beginnings of the Church, many of the Apostles, such as Peter, the first Bishop of Rome, were already married before beginning their ministry, but they abstained from marital relations after ordination; the Eastern Catholic Churches permit married priests -- not Bishops -- but in the early Church, they were expected to abstain from marital relations with their wives)
Matthew 19:12, 1 Corinthians 7:7-9, 1 Corinthians 7:20, 1 Corinthians 7:25-38
While Scripture is evidence enough for the marks of Christ's Church, we can see in the writings of Ignatius -- written in the first century, within 67 years of Christ's resurrection, by a close friend and appointee of the Apostle Peter and friend of Polycarp -- that the early Church had a very Catholic interpretation of Scripture.
Read the writings of St. Ignatius of Antioch, Clement of Rome, Cyril of Jerusalem, Irenaeus, Polycarp, St. Augustine, etc... They are rich with Catholic doctrine -- and the earliest evidence we have for what the Church was like in its earliest days!
The Church built by Christ on the rock of Peter:
Where the Bishop is, there let the multitude of believers be;
even as where Jesus is, there is the Catholic Church'' Ignatius of Antioch, 1st c. A.D
Nobody who accepts the canon of the New Testament could do so without the Catholic Church
Thank you for your showing that the Catholic Church is the church prophesied and described in Scripture.

There are anarchists that want to disrupt the April 15 Tea Party protests. These anarchists have been synonymous with many time on government agents provocateurs. They want to crash Tea Party events. Some of the anarchists for years have been caught masquerading as anti-government activists. They often attack real people who oppose the policies of the government. It's also true that for eons the governments enacts false flag operations. The group claim to anarchists, but they are really radicals form the Left side of the Left/Right paradigm. They call the Tea Party people collectively as racists, fascists, and call anyone respecting the Second Amendment gun freaks. These liars are refuted by the fact that gun rights protected this country historically from tyranny. Also, just because a man or woman respects individual liberty doesn't mean that person is a fascist or a bigotry. These hypocrites are in no right to lecture to anyone about tolerance when their ilk provocateur in violence in many demonstrations spanning over 15 years at least. These anarchists can't get their fact straight since the Tea Party movement existed as the Boston Tea Party in December of 2008 (from Libertarians). “The Libertarian Party of Illinois got the idea to hold an April 15, 2009 anti-tax ‘Boston Tea Party’ in Chicago way back in December of 2008. On February 10, 2009 they started a Facebook page and began promoting the website throughout the Illinois media,” writesNews
