From my research, I have learned that there is a branch of Catholics that are referred to as "traditional Catholics" who follow the Catholic teachings and practices prior to the changes from the Second Vatican Council from the 1960's. They're ultra conservative who oppose the changes from the Council, such as the New Mass and the new theology.
Mel Gibson happens to be one of these Catholics. Though, reports have said that he is now going through a divorce and now has a new girl friend. Isn't this a contradiction to his ultra conservative religious views?
From what I understand his wife is the one who filed for divorce.
But over all, yes I'd say it is a contradiction of his ultra conservative views. His lifestyle has gone through many changes, and over all he has changed (at least in the public eye), but being devout and/or ultra conservative doesn't mean you always get it right. I think it's difficult for us to assess what is happening in his marriage, his life and his relationship with God, by reading tabloids, and magazines.
Video excerpts from a Novus Ordo Mass, and a Traditional Catholic Latin Mass. Are they still considered Catholic? What is Catholic and what is not?
If we had a ceremony without the traditional Catholic wedding mass, but in a Catholic church, would it still be recognized by the Catholic church?
Yes, a Catholic and an Episcopalian can have a traditional wedding Mass in a Catholic Church.
They could also have a Rite of Matrimony without Mass in the Catholic Church.
Either way, as long as the couple has fulfilled all the marriage preparation requirements, the marriage will be recognized.
I will be a Godmother very soon and I wanted to know what are the "traditional" gifts for Catholic baptisms from the Godparent(s). So far, I've picked up on: the Godparents pay for the GodChild's outfit (dress, sweater, & shoes, etc.
And then I'm considering a crucifix necklace, engraved cross to hang on the wall above the door, and a rosary? Would a rosary even be appropriate?
A rosary would be an appropriate gift for a first communion or confirmation gift, unless you are talking about a large wall rosary that could be hung above the child's bed. I like to give something with a guardian angel theme, such as a picture or a night light that can be placed in the child's room.
I am looking for a Traditional Catholic Church (Latin Mass, etc). There was a Traditional Catholic Church near where we lived in Colorado but have had to relocate due to husband's job and have been looking unsuccessfully here. Thanks for the help!
go to:
www.masstimes.org and then just call each of them in your driving distances.
Some offer one mass a weekend in the traditional form.
Personally, I don't mind it once in awhile, but prefer the new.
But then again I am a convert and do not remember the Traditional Mass.
Peace and God Bless.
A few days before my Mum died, she specifically asked for an Irish Catholic funeral - stumping us all (as she isn't Irish). I've found some stuff online, but would be grateful of a more comprehensive breakdown of the differences before we have to arrange the funeral.
Mostly the character of the prayer vigil.
A Catholic funeral is broken into three parts.
The Vigil. The night before the Requiem Mass, a prayer service is celebrated. Eulogies and/or the rosary may also be said at this time. The Irish culture call this a wake. Others used to be called the Rosary. A reception with food may follow.
The Requiem Mass. A full Mass with Scripture read and explained and Eucharist (Holy Communion) received with extra funeral prayers.
The Burial. A short final prayer service at graveside. A reception at someone's home with food may follow.

This made me think of the beginnings of our current crisis within The Church when even a Supreme Pontiff would "bow" to the Jews who mocked Our Lord by changing The Church's Liturgy because of their displeasure, or of current times when a Pontiff would dare to pray like a Jew at the so-called "wailing wall", or a Pontiff who would allow himself to be scolded by chief rabbis. And this dear friends and readers of this humble blog I ask you to reflect upon today, the day on which Our Lord died.....Will YOU bow to Our Lord's broken and bloody body who died for the salvation of souls, or to the will of those perfidious Jews who persecuted, mocked, spit upon Him, and yes, even succeeded in changing the very Church He established with their venom and hatred which in part with the Modernists has us...
