I guess the the Infallibility of the Church doesn't include the Catechism..
but my Religion teacher told me the whole Catechism is an error free book
the one promulgated by JPII is jam packed with error. It is full of heresy after heresy contradicting Catholic dogma and doctrine prior to Vatican II.
quot;I declare it to be a sure norm for teaching the faith and thus a valid and legitimate instrument for ecclesial communion.quot; John Paul II
I am a Catholic and I've been searching for articles, books, and online information where I can learn more about the Catholic Church's Doctrines. do you have websites to recommend to me, books, and other articles, that are reliable sources about the teachings of the Catholic Church? thanks in advance!
Farsight, I can afford one, but I just don't have time to go anywhere else besides my workplace...
Edit
"My Dear Catholics, is there an easy way to learn about the Catechism of the Catholic Church?"
The best way is to attend an RCIA class & discuss questions you have each week while reading the Catechism; you would probably attend Mass weekly & discuss the Bible readings. RCIA is the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults; early before RCIA classes are often called the inquiry stage to learn more about the Catholic faith. There are no obligaitions for inquirers.
The Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church by Joseph Ratzinger; Pope Benedict XVI is what many RCIA classes use.
"The Compendium, which I now present to the Universal Church, is a faithful and sure synthesis of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. It contains, in concise form, all the essential and fundamental elements of the Church’s faith, thus constituting, as my Predecessor had wished, a kind of vademecum which allows believers and non-believers alike to behold the entire panorama of the Catholic faith." p. xii
The free online Compendium is here:

The free Catechism & Bible are on the Vatican website here:

An excellent DVD series on the Cathechism is by Fr John Corapi, SOLT. It contains about 50 episodes & he is excellent, but costs $200+. I look for this series which shows Sundays at 8 pm under the television link on: http://www.ewtn.com/
Msgr William Smith passed away last month; he is one of the best spoken priests I have heard:

*Currently the video is not working so I sent them an email.
The Knights of Columbus are an excellent group and offer 2 free online catechism courses here:

What is the difference between the Baltimore Catechism and the new Catechism released bt Pope John Paul II?
Does the new Catechism make the Baltimore Catechism void? Do they contradict each other? Is one more accurate?
Thanks.
I haven't come across any contradictions in the two. I will and always have taught the Baltimore Catechism. For the teaching give you the same faith and spirituality. I also recommend every one who wants to learn of our Faith to also use it. The new catechism used today for children are not in league with either the New Catechism or the Baltimore. They, the new children's catechism only give you fluff. These children need to learn faith not fluff. God bless you, Merry Christmas!

Specifically according to the Catechsim of the Catholic Church (not your own opinion, please) is smoking pot a mortal sin? Source?
Thank you "imacatholic". Your answers are always so informative. :)
Thanks, "Meg". If I may ask, what's your personal opinion? (I know I said that's not what I was looking for, in my question, but you specifically answered my question, and now I'm curious to know what you think, based on what your provided).
Marijuana is never mentioned by name. I find the section on drugs VERY confusing and nonsensical. First it is implied that alcohol, tobacco, and medicine (all of which ARE drugs) may be used:
"2290 The virtue of temperance disposes us to avoid every kind of excess: the abuse of food, alcohol, tobacco, or medicine. Those incur grave guilt who, by drunkenness or a love of speed, endanger their own and others' safety on the road, at sea, or in the air."
http://www.vatican.va/archive/ENG0015/__P80.HTM
But then goes on to say:
"2291 The use of drugs inflicts very grave damage on human health and life."
http://www.vatican.va/archive/ENG0015/__P80.HTM
Polio vaccines, penicillin, and sacramental wine inflict "very grave damage on human health and life"?
"Their use, except on strictly therapeutic grounds, is a grave offense."
http://www.vatican.va/archive/ENG0015/__P80.HTM
Huh? How can I use something that inflicts "very grave damage on human health and life" on "strictly therapeutic grounds"? Isn't that contradictory?
"Clandestine production of and trafficking in drugs are scandalous practices. They constitute direct co-operation in evil, since they encourage people to practices gravely contrary to the moral law."
http://www.vatican.va/archive/ENG0015/__P80.HTM
So if I smuggle Tylenol to these poor souls, it is evil?
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/jul/14/zimbabwe.humanrights
When wine was smuggled to priests in concentration camps during WWII so they could secretly celebrate Mass, that was evil?

>>If I may ask, what's your personal opinion?<<
That it is not a mortal sin, or indeed any sin, assuming the same standards we apply to alcohol (use in moderation, don't drive while under the influence, not for recreational use by minors, etc.).
Because marijuana is no worse than alcohol or tobacco, and because it was criminalized for racist reasons, and because it has proven therapeutic value and yet is being denied to those who would benefit from its use, I consider the laws against it to be unjust, and Catholicism teaches we are not obligated to obey unjust laws.
