In Italy (where the Pope resides), divorce is legal. But in the Philippines, it's banned by the Church. Why the double standard?
The Catholic Church believes that God does not recognize civil divorces anywhere in the world.
Jesus said, "Therefore what God has joined together, no human being must separate." (Mark 10:9)
What civil laws about divorce (or anything else) that are enacted in each country is up to the citizens of that country and not the Catholic Church.
With love in Christ.
The modern church is failing to be the church, as a result churches are encouraging divorce. Rather than displaying the marks of a true church ...
I'm with an awesome man who is divorced and has kids. My church is not ok with divorce. I love this man. I have never been married and no kids so they think that I need someone who is the same. I want to marry this man but not sure what to do about my church not ok with this. Others have dated and even married divorced people before and I'm getting compared to them. I love my church and him.
Anyone ever been in this situation ?
Thanks,

Actually, as long as his ex-wife has not slept with someone, which is still adultery, than they are still married in a Biblical sense. The same applies to you sleeping with him. It makes you an adulteress. If that's the case, you've already broken Bible teachings, so you can go ahead and turn your back on Christ, as you've already done, and marry him.

I would pray for God's guidance not mans. people may not know the reason he's divorced. maybe he had good reason,if he's a christian like you I would pray for God to help you know what to do.
Yet Church can not endorse a presidential candidate. Any lawyers interested in challenging this, I don't want a divorce my husband does, no reply needed if you think I should let him go. This is a matter of faith and I can not be swayed.
The original marriage LICENSE you're required to obtain before performing the ceremony is issued by the state government. The church ceremony is just that; a ceremony. It means more to some than the license, but it's still not legally binding unless you have that marriage certificate. As such, because the state issued your original marriage certificate, they have domain over any divorce that may occur.
It's the separation of Church and State; some people don't HAVE religious ceremonies because they either have no set religion or would rather have a civil service. By removing the sovereign ability of the state over the marriage and divorce process and giving it to the church, it essentially discriminates against those who may not be religious but still want to get married.
While historically marriage WAS the particular domain of the church, times have changed so that the ceremony is still under the church's domain, and people are free to follow their own particular religious doctrine regarding marriage and divorce, but the state ultimately does have a say.
If it's a matter of faith between you and your husband, that's between YOU and YOUR HUSBAND. Other people don't need to get involved until the lawyers, and they're the ones to help you through the complicated divorce statutes (believe me, I tried reading that thing once and I never want to do it again o.O)
I'm 16 and trying to return to the catholic church, however someone told me that the church does not recognize divorced children as ever even being born. My mother is catholic and divorced my non-catholic father.
No no no. The Catholic Church has never said that the children of divorced parents are illegitimate. Actually, being divorced in the Catholic Church is being seperated. The parents would have to get an anulment. An anulment makes it like the marriage was never there (void). But still then, the children from the marriage are still legitimate.
God bless you+
