So why didn't the early Catholic Church give Mary any reverance, but the later one did?
All Hallows Church, Sutton on the Forest, Yorkshire

The Church run by the original Peter and the 12, never gave Mary any reverance in their Church, no little altars, no nothing. Yet the later Church did, why?

<>

Of course the Apostles revered Mary! Why wouldn't they when they had the privilege of walking the earth with her?

<>

Masses were celebrated in people's homes. Their kitchen/dining tables stood in for the table used at the Last Supper. Later on, during the persecutions, the tombs of saints were used as altars; leading to the tradition of having a saint's relic in every Catholic altar all over the world.

<>

Let's not be so dramatic. There can't be 'nothing', otherwise there would be 'nothing'; no Church.

<>

It's been more than 2,000 years. Church Doctrine has developed a great deal in that time. Oh, the DOGMA that these Doctrines are based on have been in place since the time of Jesus, Mary, and the Apostles. Doctrine has continued to develop since then, and there's nothing wrong with that so long as Doctrine doesn't conflict with Dogma.

Since the name Protestant was deirived from those who protested the early Catholic Church for various reasons?
All Hallows Church, Sutton on the Forest, Yorkshire

Why don't those who say they are not Protestants and that Catholics are not Christians quit protesting and let Jesus sort all out when He returns as He has promised? Can we not live with a modicum of peace and acceptance of each other?
by "early" I mean several years back not the first several hundred years

We can. Thanks for sharing.

Whats the significance of the early Catholic Church calling Cicero a "Righteous Pagan"?
Holy Trinity Church, Little Ouseburn, Yorkshire

i can understand the irony being that the christians don't like pagans, but i dont understand it fully,

someone care to explain please?

Hello,

Because he tried very hard in his private and public life to keep the Roman virtues, many of which are enshrined in Christianity today.
Also he is not the only one well spoken about. The Church also had some admiration for the pagan Emperor Marcus Aurelius as they loved his Stoic way of life and much of his ideas on how to live and conduct yourself were implemented into various clerical orders. His persecution of some Christians who failed to support Rome and serve in her military was also greatly downplayed.

In other words, many Christians are not foolish enough to ignore the great works and ideas of non - Christians. Who can say a Pagan is always wrong just because they are Pagan?

Cheers,

Michael Kelly
