I have a paper due on a brief summary of this book the orthodox church and im having trouble if anyone has a summary or analysis on the critical points in history of the orthodox church please post!

The Orthodox Easter services is a lot differnt to other denominations.
Fasting is done through changing to a vegen diet.
If your full on on fasting, you do it 40 days before easter, christmas, 1 week before the virgin marys name day, and wednesdays and fridays.
The alter is hidden in the church.
You light a candle when entering and their are icons to kiss and have your sign of the cross done to.
The same bible cathloics use, orthodox use.
Orthodox church services run about 3 hours, first 2 hours there are prayers, and the bysentine choir chants. Then communion is given then the priest talks. The services focuss mostly on the NT, revelations is rarely covered.
Orthodox havent changed any of their traditions since the early church. When catholic adopted a change to church set ups and services as well as a new calander to follow, orthodox stayed the same.

The Eastern Orthodox Church believes that life begins at conception, and that abortion (including the use of abortifacient drugs) is the taking of a human life. However, there are exceptions. The Basis of the Social Concept of the Russian Orthodox Church states that while abortion can never be seen as morally neutral, in some cases economy can be used:

"In case of a direct threat to the life of a mother if her pregnancy continues, especially if she has other children, it is recommended to be lenient in the pastoral practice. The woman who interrupted pregnancy in this situation shall not be excluded from the Eucharistic communion with the Church provided that she has fulfilled the canon of Penance assigned by the priest who takes her confession."

The document also acknowledges that abortions often are a result of poverty and helplessness and that the Church and society should "work out effective measures to protect motherhood."

For example, my mother is a Protestant yet she does not know anything about how Protestantism came from the Roman Catholic church. She constantly tells me she does not want to "mess up her mind". Why does she want to be blind to the facts that the Catholic and the Orthodox are EQUALLY as Christian as her United Methodists. It's just so mest up when she says that that Catholics add books to their Bible. When in actuallity, Protestants have TAKEN AWAY from the Bible. The Bible originally included the Apocrypha. The Roman Catholic church and the Eastern Orthodox church came BEFORE any Protestant church. It just pisses me off that some Protestants completely reject Catholicism and Orthodoxy as not Christian. When will they stop this? I'm sorry but I don't believe Christianity is exclusive to Protestants only. I just know that Christianity began with the church in Acts and came to be known later as the Roman Catholic church and Eastern Orthodox church.

Some -- but by no means all -- Protestants would rather die than admit that their denominations are offshoots of Catholicism. It's usually the fundamentalists and Baptists who deny that their denominations could possibly have anything to do with the Catholic Church. Just take a look at some of the answers you're getting, and you'll see what I mean.

Under those circumstances, it's hardly surprising that they want nothing to do with the study of church history. Or, if they do study church history, most of them either: A) convert to Catholicism or B) frantically re-write history, preferably by demonizing the Catholic Faith with false accusations.

The fact that their Protestant denominations have their origin in Catholicism is the spiritual equivalent of having a purple elephant in the living room. Everybody knows it's there, nobody wants to admit it, and mentioning it is the biggest no no of all.

Your mom's attitude illustrates that point perfectly.
