What year was the Lutheran Church founded ad who was its founder and who were its founders?
Martin Luther was the founder in the 1500's (16th century). October 31, 1517 is the exact date. That day is called Reformation Day.
This isn#39;t your father#39;s liturgy... oh wait, yes it is. Find out about the dynamic mixture of ancient liturgy and a community of loving ...
I know that in the middle ages the Pope forbid Christians to earn money from money, which is why the Jewish Ghetto did that. But when Martin Luther created the Lutheran church, was that practice allowed?
The Reformation and the birth of Protestantism marks the end of the Late Middle Ages and the beginning of the Early Modern Period.
Therefore there was no Lutheran Church in the Middle Ages.
With love in Christ.
I was raised catholic, but i went to a lutheran church today and really enjoyed it. But im curious about the differences. I pretty much know all about the catholic faith, i went to cathoic school and 8 years of ccd. I know that lutheran is very simmilar. What do they believe about mary? Gay marrige? Divorce? what about if you dont go to church every sunday? what about confession and the forgiveness of sins?
1. The authority of Scripture.
Lutherans believe that Scripture alone has authority to determine doctrine; the RCC gives this authority also to the pope.
2. The doctrine of justification.
Lutherans believe that a person is saved by God's grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. The Roman Catholic Church, while at times using similar language, still officially holds that faith, in order to save, must be accompanied by work.
3. The authority of the pope.
Unlike the Roman Catholic Church, Lutherans do not believe that the office of the papacy as such has any divine authority.
4. Differences remain about both the number and the nature of the sacraments.
Lutherans believe that Christ's body and blood are truly present in the Lord's Supper, but they do not believe, with Catholics, that the bread and wine, are permanently "changed into" Christ's body and blood [transubstantiation].
5. Differences remain about the role of Mary and the saints.
Unlike Catholics, Lutherans do not believe it is proper or Scriptural to offer prayers to saints or to view Mary as in any sense a "mediator" between God and human beings.
While Lutherans believe that any doctrinal error has the potential to distort or deny Scripture's teaching regarding salvation, we also believe that anyone (regardless of denominational affiliation) who truly believes in Jesus Christ as Savior will be saved.
Gay Marriage is NOT accepted in LCMS or WELS, but is accepted in ELCA.
Divorce for appropriate reasons is not an issue.
Church attendance: while attendance is strongly urged and highly recommended, it is not a cardinal sin to not attend.
Confession: Every Divine Service, or Mass, is begun with Confession and Absolution. Private confession, while not obligitory, is available for those wishing it.
For more info regarding belief and doctrine, check out the Book of Concord website, in particular the Small Catechism.
WELS: Wisconsin synod, most conservative, and extremely closed.
LCMS: MIssouri Synod, oldest and middle of the road. Close communion is practiced.
ELCA: Most liberal, to the point of walking away from the Book of Concord. Open communion, female ordination, gay marriage all acceptable.

Does it mean you are a "confirmed" Christian or just a "confirmed" member of the Lutheran church?
The rite of Confirmation is when one renews the vows made on our behalf, by our parents at our Baptism. We profess our faith, and become full members of our Congregation.
Usually there is a period of instruction before. Children are usually confirmed around grade 7-8. Adults any time.
My wife was baptized and confirmed at the same service; she was raised in the Salvation Army, which did not practice Baptism.

I'm a student and a Sunday night service would work well for me. Or does anyone know of a really great Lutheran church in the Madison, Verona, or Middleton area? I am looking for one that I don't have to become a member to because I am already a member to my church back home. Thanks for your help.
(NO); there is (NOT) a Lutheran Church in Madison, Verona, or Middleton WI with a "Sunday night" service !

Luther, the Netherlands, and Apocatastasis
Apocatastasis … Luther, writing on Aug. 18, 1522, to Hans von Rechenberg, who had asked him if there was any salvation for those out of Christ at death, states that a belief in the ultimate salvation of all men, and even of the devil and his angels, was held among the sect of Free Spirits in the Netherlands, one of whom was then in Wittenberg. They based it on Ps. lxxvii. 9, 10 and on I Tim. ii. 4. He then proceeds to refute it. Again Luther warns against this belief when writing to the Christians in Antwerp in 1525 (cf. de Wette’s ed. of Luther’s letters, ii. 453 and iii. 62). The doctrine was held among the Anabaptists…another Anabaptist leader, Jacob Kautz (Cucius), in 1527 at Worms put as the fifth of seven articles he propounded...
