I'm looking for cheap wholesale turquoise, corral, & other chunky beads for cowgirl jewelry. Any suggestions?
(Untitled)

I am looking into starting my own jewelry business and I am looking for a reliable wholesaler that sells bulk/cheap turquoise, corral, and other gemstones. I really like the chip and nugget styles and the giant chunky beads. I am interested in the chalk turquoise too. I am also looking for some good wholesalers of pendants and blank belt buckles. I have been using large crosses and horseshoes for the pendants. Thanks!
The stones do not have to be genuine turquoise, corral etc.

you might check Fire Mountain Gems--they're very good. Zuma wasn't bad, either, though perhaps not exactly bulk. I buy my chip necklaces in a store called Precious Possessions in Chicago, but I believe they have a web presence. Also, if there are any bead shows by you (there are lists in BeadStyle & Bead & Button), go to them & check out the vendors.
(cheap is relative!)

I would suggest trying to find an alternative for coral. Coral is an endangered species, and I have seen many requests that people stop using it/buying new pieces. Fire Mountain or your local bead store should be able to give you an alternative.

are ladies that wear too much jewelry simply making up for lost youth and beauty?
51835167FH078_2004_Billboar

I strongly feel that the older a woman gets, the more jewelty and embellishments she wears, especially as you go up the income scale. Teens and college kids prob are more into piercings or
ankle bracelets at most. As you get into the 30's and 40's, you
see the rings and earings, embellished by diamonds. At 60+,
you see veritable showcases of jewelry, especially as you go up the income scale, almost literally covered with diamonds from head to toe. The upper class socialite can be seen with a whole
display of tieras, necklaces, earings, large palatine crosses,
bracelets from wrist to elbow over her suede gloves, and brooches
wherever room can be had on the body proper.
Again, my question is, is this just to make up for lost youth?
If so, is this a progressive thing as a woman ages? And why?
How could the glitter of a D-flawless diamond ever make up for the lost charms of youth? Is the sense of aging too much to
bear without the adornment of jewelry?

I love jewelry and I have been told I accessorize well. I am near 40, but continually shock others when I am carded due to a youthful appearance. As you gain more financial stability you are able to indulge in those things you could not afford in the lean years...and some people just have bad taste, or are making up for other things, besides lost youth, such as culture, status, economic standing. Not to mention it is the best apology a spouse can buy

flat backed ornamental cross, snake, crown, metal and jeweled jewelry?

I have a circle shaped wooden box that I would like to find some sort of large (min. 3"x3") flat backed ornament to affix to it. Preferebly metal w/ (faux) jewels. I've found pieces I like but they are usually already stuck to something. I've been looking into jewelry, crafts for things like findings & focal components, but so far they are all to small or don't have a flat back. Please help I've been up all night looking, I thought my search would be easier so now I'm determined but tired.

you can find various sizes of cross at www.fancifulsinc.com. They are made of brass, ready to be varnished or painted with metal paints and otherwise decorated. Any craft shop should have small packets of faux jewels for you to attach yourself.

fibromyalgia/cfs Jewelry/beading/craft friends needed!!!!?

i have been looking into jewarly making i have come across so many people that have fibromyalgia and Cfs and being disabled aswell there are many professional jewarly designers that have fibro and cfs aswell so i think i will give it ago

i have had fibromyalgia for over 15 years and am only 27 years old well i will be next Sunday ah nearly 30 years old going to cry in the corner Just Jk am a Big tease!!

Well i have been trying to find something that i can do that will not cause fibromyalgia pain to flare up as am sooooo BORED do u know how i feel your sick but bored like heck!!

i have a passion for 3d/sculpting crafts/art but i have tried paper mache. salt dough. large clay modeling and i just fall on my face with so much pain!!! i have been doing this for like all my life and its killing me in pain and as a person right now so am giving it up!! i cant take it any longer..

i was really getting up set about it all as we all do its natural i hope lol

I wish you much success with your endeavor. I'll pass on a few sites you might wish to explore further:

http://beadjournalproject.blogspot.com/2007/05/intro.html A blog that was begun this year 241 members, the owner has FMS and a number of other health afflictions...you may find many like minds here.

Not FMS related although some posters/readers/beaders do have the illness: http://cs.beadandbutton.com/bnbcs/tags/jewelry/default.aspx more geared towards patterns, tips, techniques etc. (Magazine avail on news stands everywhere)

This is a great support board for FM'ers including those into beading: http://www.fibrohugs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?forum=40&showtopic=3682 lots of support and friendly posters.

Another board, support for beaders, some with FMS and other illnesses as well: http://forums.bellaonline.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=postlist&Board=400

A large resource for beading, includes info on FMS beaders: http://www.wwwearables.com/techniques/beading_stitches.htm

Might I also suggest a computer program such as one of the following to set up on your computer and help you regulate breaks so that you don't get lost in the creative zone for far longer than your body can handle being there: http://www.download.com/Scirocco-Take-a-Break/3000-2350_4-10363748.html

Desk (sitting) stretches: http://www.shelterpub.com/_fitness/_desk_stretches/stretches_graphic.html (Gentle stretching is an absolute must for those with FMS)

...and a few other programs...http://reminds.qarchive.org/

As for beading and dealing with FMS...only you will know how well you will deal with this type of activity. As a creative mind who also deals with FMS among other physical issues, I too found that I had to give up some of the things I loved to do...but then I decided to learn the art of pacing...although it never really goes quite as I would like as I get involved and don't wish to stop ... it does help to make what you wish to create...a little more manageable, albeit in smaller, bite sized pieces.

Weather, stress, sleeping the wrong way, being too active, not active enough, diet etc., etc., all play roles in how we feel and how we deal...

I'd recommend taking in a local support group in your area as well if you don't already...provided that they aren't one that is a less than helpful one (i.e. lots of woe is us going on...that's not good). Also, check out Fire Mountain Gems (online) http://www.firemountaingems.com/ for lots of ideas and some decent prices on beads, findings, tools etc. Free catalog and it's large! There are also a number of other places to look just do a search and you'll locate numerous other sites to assist.

Best of luck with this...as one FM'er to another...the creative arena is a great place to be but only if not overdone.

Take care!

Does a magnet pick up gold? I lost a piece of jewelry in 6-8 feet of River water 1 month ago.

This is driving me nuts! I had a cross that hung around my neck that I took off before waverunning on July 4th. I know exactly where it went down, but didn't have time to look then. It's been driving me crazy since. My mother gave the cross to me about 11 years ago and is very sentimental to me. I have a large magnet, a pole for attachments to clean a pool (nets to attach, and sift the sediments or mud). But I've never tried to see if a magnet will attach to gold. The gold cross is in 6-8 feet of water right under a pier. I'm driving 2.5 hours for my quest today. Any suggestions? Nice responses only please! Thanks in advance!

no, to find your lost treasure, dive. Don't forget to use a powerfull flash light. the gold will reflect the light. or hire a metal detector.
