patron saint joseph

I know that St. Jude is the patron saint for people who are desperate but who is the patron saint for someone looking for an apartment? My mom says St. Joseph is the patron saint for housing. I know that if you want to sell your home, you bury St. Joseph in your yard upside down and then the house will sell. I just need to find an apartment so I will go buy a St. Joe statue tomorrow.

I think St Joseph is the patron saint for headaches. He works on houses because not being able to sell is one major headache. I don't think that not getting an apartment is quite as bad but give him a shout with your new statue. I am not sure where you need to bury him if you are talking about an apartment, which typically doesn't have a yard suitable for statue burying.

In choosing my patron saint, do I have to follow the guideline that was set by the Holy See (ex. patron saint for carpenters is Joseph, patron saint for altar servers is John Berchmans, etc)? Or do I have a freedom to choose whoever the saint I like for my patronage?

I want Michael the Archangle for my patron saint, but I'm not a police officer.

You can choose whatever saint you want; not only because some saints are the "patron saint" of more than one thing, but because sometimes you favor a particular saint because of who they were, what they did, what they stood for... the example they set. There's absolutely no reason you can't pick St. Michael as your favorite and as your patron... besides, he's more than just the patron saint of police officers; he is also the patron saint of the Army and the military in general, if I'm not mistaken.

As a little girl, my Uncle who was in the Air Force used to always wear a necklace with Saint Therese of Lisieux around his neck to protect him. Today I was looking it up because I'd forgotten who it was and I also found Saint Joseph of Cupertino.

Like you have saint joseph for the carpenters, or Athena for Athens, the postmen must also have their patron god. I've always thought that it was Hermes, is that correct ?
