It has 33 knots, as much as the years that Jesus Christ lived,Sometimes it has 99 like 33 x 3 (Saint trinity)
Its supossed to help people pray, just like rosarium in the Catholic Christianity
The black color is to remind , that there is no unsinned person.,Each knot has 9 cross-knots that symbolize the Angel orders (tagmata)

HI! I am teaching children's church on Sunday, and I plan to let the children make beaded cross necklaces. I remember doing this as a child, and there is a poem that goes along with it representing each color. I'm pretty sure that it starts out "red is for the blood He shed." Does anyone know the rest of this poem? (I don't think it is the jellybean poem) Thanks so much!!!!!!!!!

My fiance is Catholic and has a lovely silver and white beaded necklace with a cross on the bottom (with an image of Jesus hanging on it). On the other sign there is a church symbol with the letter M on it. On another part of the necklace there are the letters TOTUS TVVS engraved on the silver.

What does all of this mean, and where should I store these beads? I have them hanging from a light on our computer desk, but want to make sure this is respectful.

Sounds like a Rosary, but not sure.

the Totus tws could be Totus Tuis, which means Totally Yours.

Most likely it is blessed and should not be treated with dis-respect, but you do not have to keep it under glass or anything either, the Rosary is a set of Prayers to God asking our Holy Mother to intercede to Jesus on our behalf.

(We do not worship Mary) but ask her to pray for us.

I am glad that you are respectfull of her faith, that shows maturity on your part!

If your relationship progresses, please try to learn as much as possible about her faith. That will make things much easier if you eventually get married and have kids. Who knows, you may even join yourself!

Rosary beads (rosario in Spanish). And that is not a decoration item though many Hispanics hang them in their cars. LOL Any Roman Catholic store the sort where you get religious items, etc. Or ask at the nearest Roman Catholic church. You can also probably find them online.

I want to buy a necklace with a cross on it, but can't find the kind I'm looking for (yes, I've checked at the Christian bookstore here). You see, I'm sensitive to metal, so I wanted to get one that has the black cord that knots at two places so you can change the length, and then I want a wooden cross (maybe some beads on the cord too).

Does anyone know where I could buy this?

Well, you could go to a craft store and they have all sorts of wooden shapes and I'm sure you could find a cross. It might come with holes in it, but if not, you could drill one. And the string is easy! They have that at craft stores,too, and you could make the knots. If you don't know how, then just google it. I'm sure something will come up. I hope I helped!
