I really really enjoy to read about the ancient worlds. Who wouldn't? We find new things all the time, about the ancient past- and I find it intensely fascinating.
Anyway- one of THE most fascinating things I've read in a long time is what one man figured out about the Celtic Cross: It's an ancient navigation tool.
I know you will really enjoy reading this! http://www.viewzone.com/crichton.html
BTW I AM a Christian- I'm not trying to say anything that Jesus wasn't crucified on a cross- I just thought it was purely fascinating that the ancient folks were very advanced. And when you read the Celtic "myths" about the Tuath deDannan- who "came across the ocean" Well- they had to be the ones who used this ancient sextant! Cool
Very interesting link--thank you for posting.
The celtic cross is yet another example of what I call "convergent" elements. That is, though it might have predated Christianity, it doesn't mean it is not a Christian symbol. Concepts like linear time are human inventions, so God is not constrained by them. Why would He not have left mankind clues long before the coming of the Messiah?
Some folks are offended that so-called "pagan" aspects are embraced by some Christians, but however truth is revealed to us, God is the ultimate source.

i've always wondered about this. i wanted to buy my friend a bday present. she's a christian, and i wanted to know if a celtic cross would offend her. is a celtic cross a symbol of a mock crucifiction
She shouldn't take offense to it, and I wear a cross upside down quite often, and yes, I am a Christian. I wear it to honor the man I was named after, as Joseph was crucified upside down, because the Romans believed if he was, he wouldn't be saved by God.
Also, is the Celtic Cross a Christian symbol?
Any symbol, religious or not, must be worn out of sight while in uniform. Only military items such as dog tags, name tags, medals, unit designation and the like can be worn on the outside of the uniform. Celtic is not Christian is an medieval religion not connected to modern Christianity. It dates from the 5th or 6th century.

Does anybody here, by any chance, know a bit about
1) symbolism of the hazelnut in early Christian theology, specifically around 12th-14th century-ish
2) Julian of Norwich and any possible connections to celtic christianity, or just more thoughts, in general about her and her vision of the hazelnut?
The hazelnut is a Druid icon, not a Christian one. (The Christians likely stole the concept.)
Druid priests used to believe that they could visit the 'awen' or otherworld, when they chewed roasted hazelnuts. Most likely it was arsenic poisoning - hazelnuts have arsenic in them, like a lot of nut-bearing trees.
For example:
-The Celtic symbol and the symbol of the Christian trinity.

-Christmas with its similarities to the Pagan festival of Yule.
-Ostara (Pagan/Celt festival) is said to be the original holiday with the story of the bunny. But now it is the Easter bunny for christian religions?

If there are others, I would like to know.
Or, on the other side, if you think I'm off my meds, I don't care if you plan to tell me that either. I just want to know why there are similarities.
1.The celtic cross is the same symbol for Christian trinity because the Irish are Catholic...
2.Christmas has similarities because the Germanic tribes, after converting to Christianity, decided to mix some of their pre-Christian culture with Christianity such as the Christmas tree, and the yule log burning in the fire, Remember Christmas celebrates the birthday of Jesus of Nazareth it wasn't his exact birthdate
3. Easter celebrates the Resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth, it wasn't his exact Resurrection date, again after the pagan and celts converted to Christianity, this is in order to preserve their past cultures
That's why they are similar, they just took the dates of their old holidays and replaced it with Christian holidays
Don't believe in the Zeigeist movie either, it was a sh.it movie with MANY ERRORS, Horus wasn't born by a virgin, neither was Zeus or any other gods, and there birthdates probably are Dec 25th because Jesus wasn't born on Dec 25th...

The Significance Of The 3 Most Popular Symbols In Celtic Jewelry ...
A quick look at some celtic jewelry and you will quickly find out that there are some symbols which appear over and over.
One of the things that makes celtic jewelry so desirable is the meaning behind the various styles. If you’re looking for a very special ring then you may find that a few of the celtic designs and their meanings flawlessly fit what you looking for.
Here is a brief significance of a few of the symbols you’re likely to find on celtic jewelry rings.
1. The Claddagh. It is a collection of symbols, although they can be found on any form of jewelry they were originally crafted into a ring. The Claddagh is two hands holding a heart, and the heart is bearing a crown. The story goes that Robert Joyce was sold by Mediterranean pirates to a Moorish goldsmith. Robert learnt the goldsmiths work. Once the Irish slaves were finally given their freedom in 1689 Robert Joyce returned to his home town in Ireland. On his return he found that his beloved had waited for him. He created her a ring to represent their friendship, their love and the devotion which they’d shown each other. This ring was the very first Claddagh ring. It is the tale behind the Claddagh which seems to charm so many people of different cultures and backgrounds, since the story of affection and fidelity is respected throughout the globe.
...what does the writing in this celtic symbol mean?
I was wondering if someone could translate what the writing in this symbol means?i know that it’s celtic just don’t know what all of it means only some of it.here’s the link:

It says ‘Peace on Earth’ in a variety of different languages.
English is at the extreme right, the next one up (anti-clockwise) is ‘Tangnefedd ar y ddaear,’ which is ‘Peace on Earth’ in Welsh. Following along in the same direction, the next one is in Scottish Gaelic.
I can’t identify the other four, but they are without question Irish Gaelic, Manx Gaelic, Cornish & Breton.
As for the rest, they’re doves (Obviously the Christian symbol of peace), and some pretty generic and overused La Téne art. I doubt that it has any meaning, and if it does, it certainly isn’t relevant to the piece.
