celtic trinity symbol

I'm thinking about ordering this for my friend based on what I think it means. I've some research and I realize that these symbols are used in many religions and have multiple meanings. I was hoping someone could tell me what the most accurate and common meaning used for this symbol.

What I personally think is that its a triskelion celtic symbol that basically stands for competition and man's progress. From what I gather, the Greek term 'triskelion' means "three-legged," and this sign kind of looks like three legs running.

There seems to be two major components of symbolicism with the triskelion symbol. With the first component, there's a concept of motion. All three branches (legs, protrusions, angles) are positioned in such a way so as to make the symbol appear as if it is in constant forward motion. The feeling of motion is supposed to represent action, cycles, progress, revolution, competition, and moving forward. Is all this accurate? I just want to make sure..

In the second component, the three protrusions (legs, angles, branches, etc) are of significant symbolic importance. However the meaning seems to depend upon the era, region, culture and mythological history which makes it hard for symbologists to figure out the exact symbolic meaning of the three protrusions. From what I've found, the various representations of the three protrusions found in the triskelion include:
* Spirit, Mind, Body
* Father, Son, Holy Ghost
* Mother, Father, Child
* Past, Present, Future
* Power, Intellect, Love
* Creator, Destroyer, Sustainer
* Creation, Preservation, Destruction

To me, all this has a really meaningful relevance to my relationship with my friend. I just don't want to give her this when it's completely off charts inaccurate. Any input would help. Thanks!

That symbol predate the Christianizing of the celtic countries, it have nothing to do, in origin, with Christianity.

I fear that the original meaning is already lost and what you would find is nothing but mere speculations. That said, she would certainly be able to find some of her own interests in it.

Ask her if she will like such a present.

This is a very interesting question. I personally think that getting a tatoo is generally a bad idea. You are putting a permanent mark in your body. Many people have their girlfriends name put on just to leave them later.

Getting tattos related to God would seem a better idea as God will always be with you.

Most symbols you'll find, except for the cross are invented by people. Have you thought about religious art? like this one

I'll strongly suggest that before you get a tatoo of God on your skin you should get Jesus in your Heart. Thats the part of your body where He wants to be.

My sister and I have a very close relationship and we want to get a tattoo to sybolize it. We had found a Celtic symbol for sisters at one website, but that is the only site that we had found. We just want a little more confirmation of what it actaully is before we get something permantely tattooed on us if it does not actaully sybolize sisters.
The one symbol that we found was the trinity with a heart inside it.
Can anyone tell me if this is actually it? Thanks

ok well im gettin ready to get a tattoo but i dont wanna b cheated in the pricing of the tattoo... because its a simple design.
to describe the tattoo:
Placement- it will be on my upper back below my neck centered
Design- I'm getting a celtic trinity symbol
Colors- Only black (dont want colors added)
Size- i kno the size i want bt its hard to explain it needs to be average not too big bt not small like a wrist size
Easy or Hard- its a pretty simple design that they may have at the shop
How long- it shouldnt take to long in my opinion
Where- and finally im going to south side tattoos and body piercings PA
