I decided to give my 3 bm's a framed picture of the 2 of us together and a necklace to wear at the wedding.
I have the picture frames... now I just need the necklaces...
My budget is about $10-15 per necklace. I'd like to find something contemporary but tastefull.
I am leaning towards a heart of butterfly, but am open to suggestions. I prefer silver.
Can you recommend any "thrifty" sites? Thanks

Ok, so for the past 5yrs I've had a chain(necklace) my mother bought me that was 33inch and I wore my Cross on it. It was Gold and was a Twisted Rope design and on the thicker side. However it seems like the place we have it only carries silver now. I did purchase it from a little Pagoda in the mall, But I was hoping to find some sites with more contemporary pieces made of gold. However I keep finding places like this and they only have SILVER! :(

The problem with gold is that its not as hardy as other metals like sterling silver and platinum. Pure gold is very tensile. It is like a piece of toffee that is very soft and can be stretched a good distance before it breaks. It is this softness that makes pure gold impractical for everyday jewelry. The higher the carat, the purer the gold and the softer the gold is, still. Men's jewelry is usually bigger and thicker than women's jewelry, and it is subject to rougher handling and increased possibility of breakage, which is one reason gold is not the metal of choice for most larger men's pieces. The exception would be lower carat gold like 10 or less k because it is fortified with a lot more nickel, silver, and other alloys, and unfortunately, that's the very reason many jewelers don't really consider it to be gold at all.
To get the type of gold pieces that you're talking about you'd more than likely have to get it from a custom jeweler or one that specializes in contemporary men's jewelry. And in all probability, the cost of a thick gold neck chain with a 33 inch length is going to exceed $300 because gold is currently priced on the international market at around US$890 an ounce. I advise against spending that kind of money to buy gold jewelry on the internet unless its from a highly reputable source that you know and trust. There are many of them out there who sell high quality fakes that aren't easy to tell from the real thing because they are either sterling (or worthless metals) heavily coated (with 30 mills or more) of real gold that won't fade or strip off even with years of wear, and the only way to tell they are fake is to have an expert jeweler measure the density.
