I'm getting a tattoo and I want a Celtic Cross emblem with some text in another language. I was thinking either some form of Gaelic or something of the sort.

Any one of the Celtic languages would be suitable : Welsh, Irish Gaelic, Scots Gaelic, Manx, Cornish, Breton. I suggest that you use the old Celtic typeface for the writing.http://www.dafont.com/theme.php?cat=403< br />

I want to know if the new marines policy will let me in if i have a Celtic cross on the bottom side of my forearm. I know the rule about the sleeve's and the half sleeves so don't talk about that. I'm not sure if the celtic cross on the underside of my forearm would count as a half sleeve.

i think its ok.. i see alot of soldiers with tatts on their forearm.

i be in the army in jamuary.

i want to get a celtic cross, black and white, with fading, on the top of my back in the center. i want it to be about 7 inches tall and 5 inches wide with the celtic circle in the back of it. how much would this cost, in general. how much would it cost in rhode island.

in general tattoos can be priced either by piece, or by time (eg. charged an hourly rate). For what you are asking, you are probably looking at paying about $180-200 or more depending on the detail etc. The best thing to do would be to contact your local tattoo parlours and ask if they would do a mock drawing and give you an estimate on the cost to tattoo you. Also make sure to ask if they charge by hour, or by piece.

I recognize giving him a blingy gold cross would be a mistake.

I would like to give him a silver celtic cross, or a saint's medal (St. Brendan or St Nicholas). Will this be a problem?

John, as a former Navy DI (RCC), two tours, I can tell you a couple of things. One, he'll be able to wear the cross on his dog-tag chain, but keep it small. Think St. Christophers. Basically, keep it smaller than the size of a dog tag. Two, definitely, not gold. Silver is quite alright, but no need to tempt the occasional thief.
Every recruit is allowed to wear one religious medal - cross, Saint's, etc - along with the dog tags. There will be times he'll need to take it off, say, in the water survival, fire-fighting, damage control segments, but other than that, he can keep it, and no one will question it or attempt to have him take it off.
