Is your cross for faith or fad?

Why the Cross?

"For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God."

— 1 Corinthians 1:18

A true story was reported about a couple that was visiting a jewelry store. As the jeweler showed them various cross necklaces, the woman commented, "I like these, but do you have any without this little man on them?"

That is what so many people want today: a cross without Jesus. They want a cross without any offense, one that will look cool with their outfits. But if we could travel back in time and see the cross in its original context, we would realize that it was a bloody and vile symbol. It would have been the worst picture imaginable to see someone hanging on a cross.

The Romans chose crucifixion because it was meant to be a slow, torturous way to die. It was designed to humiliate a person. Crucifixions outside Roman cities served as warnings to anyone who would dare oppose the rule of Rome.

If there was any other way, do you think that God would have allowed His Son to suffer like this? If there had been any other way we could have been forgiven, then God surely would have found it. If living a good moral life would get us to heaven, then Jesus never would have died for us. But He did, because there was and is no other way. He had to pay the price for our sin. At the Cross, Jesus purchased the salvation of the world.

Suffer? Granted, crucifixion is pretty nasty, but Jesus just had a bad day or two.
There are plenty of people right now who are dying slow, painful, tortuous deaths over months and years of nasty cancers.

the whole concept makes no logical sense.

and, people where symbols because humans are tribal.

Birthday gift for girlfriend? Recommend necklace?

I am looking to buy a nice stylish/everyday necklace for my girlfriend, near the 200-300 price, also would like to add spa certificate.

Can anyone recommend a stylish women necklace for a 24 year old woman? I was viewing products from Gucci and found a bamboo cross necklace. suggestions?

Thanks
BTW.. her bday is in middle of august, not sure if an august stone necklace would be a suggestion... if anyone has any links/pictures would appreciate it. Thanks

Gucci always do lovely jewlery. If you want it really special, go for a tiffany necklace. Most of them arent to expensive.

This is a great necklace because the two circles show that you are linked together in a special way. It is also great because you can wear it on special occasions and everyday!
Hope this helps!

What happened to traditional Britain?

England is not England anymore and i am not being racist at ALL im just making an obsevation. england i think now is more of a muslim country than christian one. we have banned the three little pigs story because it offends muslims, we have banned even our prison officers from wearing the Cross of St George because it will offened muslim prisoners. do we not let muslim women cover their hair because of their religion but our men can not where a cross? a woman in an office here was told she could not wear her christian cross necklace as it was offendeding the muslim women there, but they could keep their heads covered. i feel muslims have the right to do the things they do for their religion but why cant we keep doing what we have always done in our country. it makes me sad that english people in their own country have less rights than the immigrants because they can play the race card. does anyone else find this wrong? do you think if we moved to Israel they would ban things for us?
heres a story of a guy who was suspended for hanging a picture of jesus in a staffroom, now we are surposed to be a christian country and they wear their head scarfs infront of us why cant he have a picture?

the cross necklace is to show religion its not an accessory, and i never said the headscarf was an accessory. and i know the muslim people can be wonderful i never said they werent. im saying why cant we express our religion in our own country but they can express theirs and get our expressions banned? i think we should all be aloud expresion.

This is a very sticky issue for me. Truthfully, it makes me sad.
But, whatever has been done has been done.
I suppose people will go on living in their seperate communities... and so on..not necessarily bad. Truth is, I have arguments about this with my fiance (I'm moving there very soon, I am American..he is..not. Not British either.)

i like diversity and change, im talking about the fact we dont have the RIGHT to display our religion in our OWN country like they display their religion. why can they and we cant?

i know what you mean.

seems they're banning everything that people might get offended by
but actually no one ever thought of it like that.
its stupid isn't it

  • More than just okay: My Cross Necklace

I have never been a fan of using the cross as jewelry. Never worn even a small cross on a short chain. It seemed disrespectful in some way to me. The cross, for me anyway, is a sacred symbol, not an accessory. And symbols have meaning. But a few months ago, shopping with Christmas money, I purchased this cross. I love it. It's just costume jewelry, nothing expensive at all. But it is solid and tangible. And when I'm feeling particularly alone, I grab and hold onto the cross. Its solidness is reassuring. Maybe it's a crutch. Maybe I need a crutch right now. I just know that I've changed my mind about wearing this symbol.
