I have Irish blood in me and I do take some pride in my heritage (of course I certainly believe all people are created equal) and it would be massively disappointing to me to if Irish Celtic crosses were considered hate symbols. Does anybody know for sure?

No, Celtic Crosses are harmless relics from the early Irish Catholic Church. Unfortunately they have been hijacked by white supremacists much like Hitler hijacked the swastika (originally a Buddhist/Asian symbol of peace and love!). There are also swastikas carved into ancient Celtic stonework, by the way, and those Iron Age people were certainly not white supremacists, as those ideas didn't exist then.

I have an Irish ancestry and was interested in getting a Celtic tattoo, more specifically a Celtic cross.

My only question is, is the Celtic cross a Catholic symbol? Because I'm not Catholic. I'm a Christian... but not Catholic.

No, it's not Catholic in origin. Originally, it is thought that the Celtic cross was more like a plus sign with a circle- with both staves being of equal length. Originally, it was a celtic sun symbol, and eventually the Christians took it over. I wouldn't worry so much about the symbol's origins so much as what it means to you. If you like it and are drawn to it, use it.
