I want to know how many miles they do for practice in a week, how many miles are meets, and what is the average time in meets. I want to see if i might be able to run in college.

Going to any Division 2, 3 or NAIA school pretty much guarantees that you can run on the team there.

At my NAIA university we trained with 60-100 miles a week depending on the time of the season.

For the meets we ran 8K which is 40 meters short of 5 miles.

And the times range from 24 minutes to over 30 minutes depending on ability and age.

If you really want to run in college you should be training during the summer on your own. getting miles in during the summer is probably the most important training you can do for college cross country. Anywhere from 30-60 miles a week would be awesome.

i was wondering because they dont have either team listed on their website besides the women track and cross country team

I would assume that they have a men's team, solely because of the fact that they have a women's team. However, I'm not sure, and you might want to get in contact with the school to pose that question (http://www.unlv.edu/main/contact.html).

I only have 1 more year of high school left, and as I started looking at colleges, the University of Utah happened to be one of those that peaked my interest. Its a great school and all, but my main concern is why they don't have men's cross country or track? For women, yes, but for men, no. Does anyone have any legitimate information on that decision? Thanks

If they do not have the men's teams in either sport is is to the university needing to comply with Title IX. In a nutshell, football creates 80+ scholarships exclusively for men. Most universities have larger female populations, and need a number of scholarships that can be equal to what football offers. They add sports which are not available for men at times. Sometimes wrestling, soccer and other sports are dropped so that women's athletics an remain as scholarship sports

anyone know the difference between the type of shoes available, i always just get what looks good, but there are running shoes, trainers and cross trainers out there

Running shoes: Shoes more geared for racing
Training shoes: Shoes geared for training for racing
Cross Training: Shoes for cross training (biking, treadmill running, martial arts, basically anything you do to stay in shape besides running)
