religious jewelry

For those who wear some religious symbol in the form of jewelry, clothing, etc, I am curious as to why you do. Is it for attention, or to identify with others of your faith, or is it a matter of displaying it to the world? Or is it something totally different? I'd really like to know what you have to say on the subject.

For theists who don't wear any religious symbols, why not?

I'd like for you to think about it, don't just spit up an overused cliche answer.

Interesting question.

I wear a ring made of silver and carnellian, on the stone is carved, in Arabic - la illaha illa allah muhammada rasul allah - which means there is no God but God and Muhammad is the prophet of God. The ring is very old (over 150 years I am told) and comes from Afghanistan.

I wear this ring because it is part of following my religion to follow the Sunnah - or traditions - of Muhammad (saw) who also wore a ring of silver and carnellian.

Yes, sometimes the ring draws comments from people who ask about it and I am always happy to tell them what it signifies but I do not wear it to encourage such interest. It is simply part of my religious beliefs.

What is the significance of this? Do "post-Easter" crosses have a place in your religious art and Jewelry too?




To Whom It May Concern: If you really want to completely lose my respect, post something anti-Catholic.

The significance is nearly as old as the faith itself -- it is a constant reminder of what Jesus suffered for us. It was also a teaching tool to show converts (who were not literate, or where language barriers existed) in the form of paintings and sculpture -- again, the horrible death Jesus suffered for us. It's also a unifying symbol; a way to recognize a brother or sister in Christ on sight.

"Post Easter" crosses (I am assuming you mean the Risen Christ, or a plain cross) can also be worn, kept in the house, etc -- but it really is the Crucifix that reminds us of His sacrifice.

Actually Priscilla, I read last year something from the Vatican about those Risen Christ crosses, and how they shouldn't be used. It'll be an easy internet search if you are interested.

depends on the reason you are giving the gift. Some young girls get their first cross at first communion.Others get them from family or Friends as gifts. The price would very on wether you are buying gold,silver, electroplated etc. Need more info to answer question
