my boyfriend kindly asked if he could clean my silver tiffany necklace and bracelet set yesterday.he couldn't find the fairy liquid so used BLEACH!the set went black.i scrubbed for a while but no joy.then i left it in water. The black has gone a cream colour and it scrapes off.any suggestions on how to get it back to normal.

Things You’ll Need:
1/4 cup baking soda
1/4 cup salt
1/4 cup liquid dish soap
1/2 gallon water
Large pot
Aluminum foil
Big plastic stir spoon
Colander or strainer
Towel
Stove top

Step 1:
Line the inside of large pot with aluminum foil.

Step 2:
Pour all ingredients into the lined pot and stir with plastic spoon.

Step 3:
Gather the sterling silver jewelry that needs cleaning and gently drop them into the pot. Be sure to count the silver to ensure nothing gets thrown out later with the aluminum foil.

Step 4:
Bring the solution to a low boil. Let boil for about 4-5 minutes.

Step 5:
Remove from heat. After the solution cools a bit, use a colander or strainer and pour out contents of pot. Rinse with cool water.

Step 6:
Count your pieces as you lay them on a towel to dry.

Step 1:
Choose the right toothpaste. The key to using toothpaste as a silver jewelry cleaner is the baking soda. Do not use gel toothpaste, as it usually does not contain baking soda. And, avoid toothpastes that boast tartar-control or whitening power, as they may include chemicals that can harm your silver.

Step 2:
Use a soft dampened cloth to clean more delicate jewelry or softer silvers. Wet the silver and add a dab of toothpaste. Remember that a little goes a long way. Rub gently with the moistened cloth until polished.

Step 3:
Add a bit more toothpaste if the cloth becomes dark with tarnish and continue cleaning. Simply wash the darkened toothpaste foam from the jewelry piece, rinse the cloth and begin again.

Step 4:
Scrub your silver jewelry gently with a toothbrush for stubborn tarnish or hard to reach grooves. Try to find an old worn toothbrush or buy a new soft-bristled toothbrush to prevent scratching.

Step 5:
Rinse the polished silver jewelry in warm water and dry with a soft towel.

Tips & Warnings:

Toothpaste is an effective cleansing agent not just for your silver jewelry but also for your larger silver pieces.

While toothpaste may be the best and most economical method for cleaning silver jewelry, it can be abrasive and may scratch more delicate silver items. Always test a small area first, in order to determine whether your jewelry piece should be cleaned with toothpaste or not.

help please.
when i said rust i dnt mean like how iron nails rust i ment its loosing its shine and i tried to wipe it with the porper wipes and it goes shiny but then it looses its shine pretty quick like in just about another 4 minz it looses shine

rub toothpaste not the gel kind but the white paste kind on it

let it dry, then take a clean, damp towel and wipe it down really good, then use a clean dry towel to polish and reveal shine.

Would a Handbag with gold accents look good with silver jewelry?

I have a coach bag and it's like white with like bronze-ish and brown C's and gold hooks(as in the things attaching the strap to the actual bag). But the thing is I only wear silver jewelry,so if I wear that handbag and silver bracelets and a silver necklace would I look totally odd?or would it look alright?

Also I'm wearing a colorful top would that look good with the bag too?

Not mixing metals is an outdated fashion rule, just like matching your bag and your shoes. I think that it would look great, it all comes down to how do you feel about it. You need to be confident when you step out the door.

allergic to silver necklace?

s it possible I am allergic to a silver necklace? I never wear small metal necklaces, but my bf bought me a pretty solid heart necklace from Tiffany's, but everytime I wear it my throught tightens up more and more throughout the day. I didn't really connect the two until today when I was wearing the necklace and the same thing happened! I thought it was from some earrings I was wearing before (maybe allergy, mixed metal from Chanel), but I didn't wear the earrings since I am thinking I am allergic to them since they keep making my ears bleed (i am not doing anything to make them bleed!).

I have silver bracelets from Tiffany, and no problem, but this is my first "metal" necklace, and maybe because it is so close to my head it is causing a resperatory allergy? I just got an inhaler from the doctor because I have had trouble breathing and have had a sore throat, but it all cleared up once I stopped wearing the necklace, but not all the symptoms are coming back again.
I would hope the necklace isn't silver plated since it is from Tiffany's and was $125. It is the 925 silver
actually it was $150. Here is the link to a pic and the information. I am seriosuly baffled by why this is happening, but the only consitant link to this problem is this necklace, and it gets worse the longer I wear it. http://www.tiffany.com/Shopping/Item.asp x?sku=21124656&mcat=148204&cid=2 88155&search_params=s+5-p+1-c+288155 -r+-x+-n+6-ri+-ni+0-t+
it is not the outside of my neck that gets tight, it is the inside and my throat gets all red.

That is a bit of a puzzler. Normally an allergic reaction to metal presents as a rash, not as anaphalaxis-(how ever that is spelled.) The most frequent allergic reaction occurs when people touch nickel.

Is it possible that the necklace is silver plated, versus sterling silver? If so then I would guess that the base metal of the necklace contains nickel. Also, is the necklace made from the new non-tarnish silver which is called Argentinium? (Argentinium also contains nickel.)

Please do check with your physician. Perhaps a battery of allergy tests is in order. Anything that affects your breathing is serious.

Can my pretty necklace really be doing this? It wasn't cheap, about $125.
it was $150. Would this be cheap silver? like plated?

here is the link to the necklace on their website. http://www.tiffany.com/Shopping/Item.asp x?sku=21124656&mcat=148204&cid=2 88155&search_params=s+5-p+1-c+288155 -r+-x+-n+6-ri+-ni+0-t+
When I don't wear it, it clears up. I didn't really think about the metal reactiing with my beauty products. I use a moisturizer on my neck and I spray perfume on my chest area. Both products are fine on their own, but I didn't think about them mixing with the necklace.

Yes, it can.
Just don't wear it awhile and see if the problem clears up.
Even thought it was costly and supposed to be silver, it might not be.
It could have lead in it or maybe you have a lotion or something that is reacting with the metal.
I would try not wearing the necklace and see what happens.
