I have a celtic cross that says "sterling bliss" on the back. Is this the same as sterling silver? If not is there a different way to polish it? I have used regular silver polish and it did not clear up that well. I have also tried toothpaste which I heard works. Any other suggestions or brand of polish to use?

I'm looking for a Celtic wedding band for my fiance. He's not picky at all, and said he'd like whatever I pick out. He doesn't want to spend much money on it, since he doesn't really care either way.

Initially, I was thinking about getting a sterling silver ring, but I wondered how well it would hold up. I have a sterling silver promise ring that I wore for 7 years... it's a little beat up. I thought that white gold might wear a little better, but it's pretty expensive. (Especially since it's celtic... that seems to up the price quite a bit!)

Do you think stainless steel would be a good option for us? Does it hold up well? Anyone have any major problems with it? Can a casual observer make the distinction between that and some of the finer materials? Thanks!

stainless steel is what your standard flatware that you eat with every day is made of. it holds up well, but it will dull over time and lose its luster. white gold will require polishing and replating every 6-12 months, but it will hold its shine and luster a lot longer because of the constant upkeep. sterling silver will tarnish and just won't hold up like you want it to. I would stick with white gold, even if it seems a little pricey now - he'll be wearing this for the rest of this life :)
