For example, a 3/4 Boxer and 1/4 Rott cross? I s'pose there wouldn't be much money to be made in that though, would there? People want purebreds so they can show them and have higher vet bills... oh, well.....

People raise cross breeds aka designer dogs purely for profit because people are too lazy or ignorant to research and they believe the lies told. They sell these mixes for hundreds sometimes thousands of dollars, so yes there is much money to be made on cross breeds also called mutts. These dogs also end up with just as many health problems if not more than pure bred dogs because cross breeds are usually bred from inferior animals that have health problems to begin with.

People want pure bred dogs because they want to know what they are getting and yes some show them. As for owners of purebred dogs having to spend more money on vet bills, that is completely false. If time and research is spent on the breed of choice and the dog is purchased from a reputable breeder your chances of having a sick animal are very small. Usually people who have sick animals have them because they bought from a byb, puppymills or petstores, these places do not do any kind of health testing to ensure the animals they sell are healthy and free of genetic problems.
