Why do people wear Rosary as a necklace?
Flyers

I'm Catholic and i don't wear them as a necklace. but i see SO many people in my school(High School) wearing rosary as a necklace. and not to be racist this goes to Hispanic people.
Why is this?

The Rosary is a very powerful prayer and the wearing of the Rosary is just the beginning to the wise and not a fashion accessory.

THERE ARE FIFTEEN PROMISES OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN TO CHRISTIANS WHO FAITHFULLY PRAY THE ROSARY

1 To all those who shall pray my Rosary devoutly, I promise my special protection and great graces.

2 Those who shall persevere in the recitation of my Rosary will receive some special grace.

3 The Rosary will be a very powerful armor against hell; it will destroy vice, deliver from sin and dispel heresy.

4 The rosary will make virtue and good works flourish, and will obtain for souls the most abundant divine mercies. It will draw the hearts of men from the love of the world and its vanities, and will lift them to the desire of eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means.

5 Those who trust themselves to me through the Rosary will not perish.

6 Whoever recites my Rosary devoutly reflecting on the mysteries, shall never be overwhelmed by misfortune. He will not experience the anger of God nor will he perish by an unprovided death. The sinner will be converted; the just will persevere in grace and merit eternal life.

7 Those truly devoted to my Rosary shall not die without the sacraments of the Church.

8 Those who are faithful to recite my Rosary shall have during their life and at their death the light of God and the plenitude of His graces and will share in the merits of the blessed.

9 I will deliver promptly from purgatory souls devoted to my Rosary.

10 True children of my Rosary will enjoy great glory in heaven.

11 What you shall ask through my Rosary you shall obtain.

12 To those who propagate my Rosary I promise aid in all their necessities.

13 I have obtained from my Son that all the members of the Rosary Confraternity shall have as their intercessors, in life and in death, the entire celestial court.

14 Those who recite my Rosary faithfully are my beloved children, the brothers and sisters of Jesus Christ.

15 Devotion to my Rosary is a special sign of predestination.

all these promises are true and can be counted on

It takes fifteen mins to recite a rosary (1% of a 24Hr day) the benefits are life transforming.

P.S. Wearing the Rosary is fullfilling Promise # 12
(their wearing it got you noticing, got you thinking and led to you searching and no doubt others as well)

as for the Hispanic part they are especially devoted to Rosary because of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

Where does the Rosary Come From?
Strike a Pose!

im talking about the rosary that all those catholic gangsters at my high school are wearing, and the rosary that is on the mirror of some catholic peoples cars.

2nd Part: Is It Supported by scripture.

Those who want to fellowship with the Roman Catholic Church and accept it as a true "church" are ignoring its blasphemous teachings concerning Mary. The Catholic religion is straight out of hell! The Vatican II Council and the New Catholic Catechism reaffirmed that Mary is the sinless Mother of God, that she ascended bodily to Glory and was crowned as the Queen of Heaven, that she can hear and answer prayer. Of course, no such teachings are found ANYWHERE in the Bible. Mary is NOT the queen of heaven, she did NOT ascend bodily, and Mary certainly is NOT sinless! The mother of Jesus was a sinner! Where in the world did anyone ever get the twisted idea that Mary was sinless? No such teaching is taught in the Word of God. The ONLY sinless being who ever walked this earth was the Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

The Catholic Rosary is largely a prayer to Mary. Though Catholics like to point out that they are not praying to Mary, the 2nd of the ten commandments clearly prohibits and warns us NOT to BOW DOWN to any graven image. God in the 2nd commandment even goes as far as to warn us against bowing down to the likeness of anything in HEAVEN OR EARTH. Mary worship is a sin! Pope John Paul II is a great Mary lover. In his book Crossing the Threshold of Hope, the Pope testifies that his personal devotion to Mary was developed at Marian sites such as Jasna Gora (home of the Black Madonna) in his homeland of Poland (Crossing the Threshold of Hope, p. 220). The Pope has "Totus Tuus" (All Yours) embroidered on his papal garments, designating his "abandonment to Mary" (Crossing the Threshold of Hope, p. 215). After the Pope was shot during an assassination attempt in May 1981, he attributed his subsequent recovery to Mary, and it was at shrines such as Jasna Gora and Fatima that he has expressed his thankfulness to the "Queen of Heaven." He prays to Mary daily. This is an abomination unto the Lord.

"I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images." -Isaiah 42:8

According to the Marian Library, about 80% of the Catholic shrines are dedicated to Mary. (Several years ago, Wilson Ewin, who researched Roman Catholicism for many decades, reported that he knew of only one Catholic church in the world that is named for Jesus Christ. All the others are named for Mary or other Catholic "saints.") Each year, 10 million visit the shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe (Mexico), 6 million to Lourdes (France), 5 million to Czestochowa (Poland), and 4 million to Aparecida (Brazil). Those are just a few of the shrines dedicated to a false Mary which are visited by millions of people searching for religious blessing and miraculous healing.

Mary allegedly appeared to three children at Fatima, north of Lisbon, Portugal, in 1917, identifying herself as "Our Lady of the Rosary" and giving the following promises to those who will faithfully recite the Rosary. The following unbiblical information is from the Roman Catholic site http://www.fatima.org/promises.html

ADDED: The Rosary is NOT supported by scripture!

The promise of reciting the Rosary is wicked, it leads people away from trusting upon Jesus Christ alone. Mary is dead, she died nearly two millenniums ago. Mary has not spoken to anyone upon the earth since her death. Mary is in heaven today, but she is NOT elevated in anyway above any other godly women throughout history who lived an obedient life for God. We must not make the foolish mistake (and sin) of elevating any sinner (such as Mary) above just that...being a dirty rotten sinner deserving of hell. I worship Jesus Christ, God the Father and the Holy Spirit of God. One God (Scripturally called the "Godhead"), Who has manifest Himself to mankind in the form of three individual and distinct persons. To those who believe, no explanation is necessary: to those who believe not, no explanation is possible. Do you believe? I certainly do!

Mary cannot make any promises to you, me or anyone else because she has been dead for nearly 2,000 years. Please don't be deceived by the evil inventions of foolish men and women rebellious against God Almighty...Mary worship is a sin! Even bowing to her is a sin! Counting beads while saying "Rosary" prayers is formalism, religious heresy, and a big waste of your time.

Religion in Public High School?
Lights, Camera, and Action!

first, i only want people to answer who agree that there can be religion in schools, k? im wondering if a teacher can take away a rosary? im catholic, and do they have any right to take one away? or to say that i cant have pictures of the bishop or other religous leaders? teachers have no say in religion in school right? now dont say that religion should be kept in chuch, k, that isnt what im asking really, do the teachers have any right pertaining to the religios believes i want to express?? and if they say that they dont believe in god, and they take away the rosary, is that like them endorsing or saying what religion i have to follow? thanks, no dumb *ss answers either please, just get to the point!

Unaffilliated/agnostic here, but I do believe there can be religion in schools. Not OFFICIAL, state-sponsored religion, but PERSONAL religion is very much allowed.

You're allowed to have religious jewelry/rosaries(provided it's not out of dress code, ie: too big and ostentatious, not something small and simple like a crucifix pendant), you can read Bibles in school, pray before meals(and tests), invite friends and classmates to come with you to services and the like.

The only time a teacher or any other school administrator has any right to stop you is if you're being disrespectful or disruptive towards others. Example, if you've invited a classmate to church or something, they've said no, and you started beating them up in order to make them join, then they have the right to tell you to knock it off.

No, I'm not saying you actually did that. Just an example of behavior that wouldn't be allowed. Just asking is ok, but you also have to respect that person if they turn down your invitation. Really, unless you're bothering/harassing others or disrupting class, they can't stop you. They can't make you stop praying, take away your bibles or rosaries or anything like that.

A teacher endorsing religion one way or another is for them to lead the class/school in prayer, force students to pray before meals, that sort of thing. Doesn't matter the religion, if any teacher forces any prayer or to make kids read any religious text, then they're breaking the law by making kids adhere to one religion or another. But they can't take religious objects away from students unless the student is being disruptive or disrespectful.

If a teacher took your rosary away in school, just because they didn't believe in God, then they had no right to because you have every right to say a prayer before school starts or whenever, so long as it's not disrupting class.

What is the proper use of a rosary? ?
Win a new Mustang!

I saw on the news tonite about a teenager at a local high school that was told by a security guard and the school that she could not wear her rosary because it has been identifyed as gang related paraphenalia. I am Baptist, but to my knowledge rosaries are used for prayer and are not worn as custume jewlery would be worn. Am I correct?

well the rosary is a symbol of the catholicism.. but that's not true for gangs.. they wore that because maybe they believe in the protection.. but the rosary is like counting the prayers.. that include Ave MARIAS and the Lord's Prayer and the final prayer to Jesus

  • Holy Rosary High School Homecoming

The school is inviting alumni back to revive the once thriving school which in recent years has fallen into a state of disrepair. The school was almost closed, BUT with the help of the community and an amazing priest (Fr. Joe) the school is starting to come alive and attendance is going up and the public schools are getting nervous!
